Software Engineer Location: United States / Remote Employment Type: Full-Time Job Category: Software Engineering Job Overview Datgroup LLC is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and deploy modern applications supporting mission-critical federal systems. This is a hands-on engineering position spanning both front-end and back-end development. You will build application features, develop and integrate APIs, work with databases and external services, and collaborate with product and engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable software. We are looking for an engineer with strong software development fundamentals who can contribute across the application stack while bringing deeper expertise in one or more technical areas. Core Technologies: React | Java | Python | REST APIs | Docker | Git | CI/CD What You'll Do - Design, develop, test, and deploy front-end and back-end application components. - Build modern, responsive user interfaces using React and related technologies. - Develop and maintain backend services and application functionality using Java, Python, and modern development frameworks. - Design, develop, consume, and integrate REST APIs. - Integrate applications with databases, enterprise services, APIs, and external systems. - Translate product requirements and user needs into maintainable technical solutions. - Develop clean, reusable, testable, and well-documented code. - Participate in code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and other software quality activities. - Troubleshoot and resolve application defects, integration issues, and production problems. - Optimize applications for performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability. - Apply secure software development practices throughout the development lifecycle. - Work with Docker and containerized application environments. - Support automated build, testing, and deployment processes through CI/CD pipelines. - Use Git and modern version-control practices to collaborate across engineering teams. - Work closely with product managers, designers, architects, QA engineers, and other developers. - Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical design discussions, backlog refinement, and implementation planning. - Create and maintain technical documentation covering application architecture, APIs, implementation decisions, and development procedures. - Evaluate emerging technologies and development approaches that can improve our products and engineering practices. - Use modern AI-assisted development tools responsibly and appropriately to improve engineering productivity. - At senior levels, mentor other engineers and contribute to technical standards and engineering best practices. Required Qualifications - U.S. Citizenship required and ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust. - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field. - 5+ years of professional software development experience for senior-level consideration. - Strong software engineering and object-oriented programming fundamentals. - Professional experience developing modern web applications. - Experience with React or similar modern front-end frameworks. - Experience developing applications using Java and/or Python. - Strong understanding of API development and system integration. - Experience working with relational or non-relational databases. - Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs. - Experience with Docker or other containerization technologies. - Experience with Git and modern source-control practices. - Understanding of automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software delivery practices. - Understanding of application security and secure coding principles. - Experience working within Agile software development environments. - Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. - Strong written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications - Active or previous DHS Public Trust. - Experience supporting technology solutions within DHS or another federal agency. - Experience developing enterprise-scale or mission-critical applications. - Experience with cloud environments, particularly AWS. - Experience with microservices and distributed application architectures. - Experience implementing secure API and application integration patterns. - Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and automated security controls. - Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration technologies. - Experience with automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing. - Experience with application performance monitoring, logging, and observability. - Understanding of UI/UX principles and accessible application development. - Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements is a plus. - Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to other engineers. - Federal consulting or customer-facing technical delivery experience is preferred. AI & Emerging Technology Modern software engineering increasingly involves AI-enabled capabilities and development tools. Experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus: - Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) - Machine Learning - Natural Language Processing - AI-enabled application features - Intelligent automation - AI-assisted software development tools - Integration of AI services through APIs AI expertise is not required for this Software Engineer position.
