Responsibilities Independently prepare proposals for simple to complex projectsIndependently perform engineering analysis using standard formulas and computer software; create sketches, technical comparisons, and similar technical work in compliance with company and industry methodologies for simple to moderately complex projects. Collaborate on highly complex projects with other senior and principal engineersWork within established procedures and protocols while aware of risks associated with recommendationsReview field reports documenting contractor work methods, test results, and the interpretation of those testsAct as the primary author of deliverables for projectsAssist with field and lab activities when necessaryProvide mentorship to junior level field and office team membersProvide technical and peer review of project deliverables, proposals, and reports before submittal for final reviewAct as a technical resource for one or more engineering specialtiesOversee, train and teach company technical practicesCoordinate project assignments with other engineers and technicians within the discipline groupDirect project teams and projects with significant business impactIndependently manage small to large sized, low to high complexity CMT projectsReview drawings supplied by vendors, clients, engineers, and architects and recommend necessary changesRecognize and resolve construction/CMT problemsDevelop client relationships including attending professional organization events and identifying and following up with potential clientsUnderstand and manage client needs through communications and proposal/project workDemonstrate thorough understanding of professional liability and business risks and communicate issues with clients and legalConsistently follow all safety policies and practices and communicate project safety requirements to all team members assigned to projects managedBe actively involved in industry and professional associations, and present locally at industry association meetingsManage and mitigate risk in consulting projects; maintain awareness of engineering specialties outside area of expertise Required Skills Demonstrated understanding of contracting policies, including General ConditionsDemonstrated understanding of the local Standard of CareKnowledge and experience in geographic/geologic practice areas sufficient to serve as a technical resource and reviewerTechnical aptitude to solve technical issues where solutions are undefined in typical practiceExcellent written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrated fiscal management skillsExcellent customer service skillsExcellent critical thinking skills and attention to detailStrong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office applicationsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulationsCreative and innovative thinking in bringing successful resolution to high-impact, complex, and cross-department problemsAbility to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manualsAbility to interact with clients to help maintain project schedules and deliverablesAbility to develop and manage multiple client relationships at onceAbility to develop an understanding of firm services and market them to clientsAbility to work independently and as a team memberAbility to qualify professional opinions and recommendations of less experienced engineersAbility to delegate and develop others Minimum Experience and Education Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Geotechnical engineering or closely related field; Master of Science a plusMinimum 8 years of direct experience in engineering or materials science related research or consulting servicesCurrent driver's license; PE license for 4+ yearsProficient with Microsoft applications Physical Demands & Working Conditions Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and talk or hear. Frequently required to reach, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds. Close, distance, and color vision required. Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions; noise level usually moderate but can be loud on job site.
