Principal Software Engineer

A technology consultancy is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Software Engineer. The Role Drive architecture ownership across multiple services and provide technical leadership across teams. Directly contribute to engineering standards and best practices, as well as talent acquisition. Write high-quality code, balancing hands-on development with strategic direction. Collaborate on a Java/Spring Boot microservices platform on AWS EKS with a Next.js frontend and Camunda orchestration. Occasional travel to London for client work (approx. once a month) with expenses paid. UK SC Security Clearance required; must be a UK National who has resided in the UK for the past 5 years. What You'll Need Minimum 10+ years of experience at a principal or staff-grade equivalent level. Expert-level proficiency in Java 17 or 21, leveraging modern language features. In-depth knowledge of Spring Boot, including security, transaction management, and asynchronous/reactive programming. Proven experience designing microservices architectures from the ground up. Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker in production environments. Practical expertise in AWS services such as EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, and EventBridge. Experience owning CI/CD pipelines and a strong discipline in automated testing (JUnit, Mockito, integration testing, TDD/BDD).
