Applications Close: Wednesday 9 September 2026 Job Details You'll join the Passports IT Section within the Business Solutions Branch of DFAT's Information Management and Technology Division as a full-stack .NET Developer (Smart IQ), supporting the sustainment, enhancement and delivery of Australia's passport systems and priority ICT initiatives. The core of the work is the Online Passports Application Service (OPAS): developing and supporting enhancements and maintenance, delivering miscellaneous work packages, and taking part in the shared 24x7 on-call roster that keeps this critical citizen-facing service running. You'll work in an agile team alongside other developers, testers and business stakeholders, managing multiple high-priority work items at once in an environment of rapid change and continuous improvement. DFAT is looking for enthusiastic, proactive developers with 5+ years of Smart IQ and .NET experience, strong Vue JS and Microsoft technology skills, experience with modern cloud platforms, and ideally some APS background. Location ACT. Onsite. Canberra based, 5 days in the office. Maximum 40 hours per week. Duration 12 months, commencing 2 November 2026, with 2 x 12 month extension options. Citizenship Australian Citizen Clearance NV1 Key Responsibilities * Develop and support enhancements and maintenance for the Online Passports Application Service (OPAS) and other work packages * Provide shared, ongoing 24x7 on-call support for OPAS * Deliver full-stack development across Smart IQ, Vue JS and .NET * Manage multiple high-priority work items simultaneously within an agile team * Contribute to continuous improvement and the delivery of real business benefits Skills & Experience 5+ years of Smart IQ and .NET development experience, preferably with some experience in an APS environment. Experience leading ICT technical teams may be an advantage. SFIA levels: * Development and Implementation - Systems Development - Programming / Software Development (PROG) - Level 5 * Development and Implementation - Systems Development - Systems Design (DESN) - Level 5 Essential Criteria 1. Smart IQ customisation and integration. Advanced demonstrated experience developing customisations and/or integrating with external products using the Smart IQ product. 2. Enterprise integration solutions. Demonstrated experience building and designing enterprise level integration solutions. 3. Data modelling. Demonstrated ability to build data models to business requirements. 4. Agile delivery. Demonstrated experience tracking and progressing tasks using Agile, Kanban or Scrum frameworks. 5. Troubleshooting. Demonstrated experience tracking and troubleshooting errors in development and configuration. Desirable Criteria * Technical assistance. Experience providing technical assistance and end user troubleshooting. * Smart IQ configuration. Extensive experience configuring Smart IQ forms with the ability to build and modify custom objects, flows, permission sets, sharing and other related configuration and settings. * Government environment.
