Department and Organization Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology builds and advances the technology backbone for Disney’s global media business. Content Platforms & Operations develops and operates systems for media supply chain, storage, distribution, localization, transmission, and origination. Role Overview The Software Engineer II supports and maintains code that delivers new system features and resolves reported bugs. The role contributes to bug triage, enhancements, system monitoring, alerting, scalability, and reliable operation. The position emphasizes backend development, APIs, databases, distributed systems, frontend familiarity, AWS, and scalable production systems. Responsibilities and Duties Investigate anomalies, perform root-cause analysis, and develop permanent resolutions for production bugs and complex incidents.Troubleshoot REST API, microservice, and third-party SaaS integrations and understand upstream and downstream dependencies.Participate in code reviews, monitoring, CI/CD, deployments, change management, and release management.Own critical incidents and outages, drive automation and performance improvements, and approve production changes.Collaborate with engineering, product, design, QA, infrastructure, testing, vendor, and client stakeholders.Maintain KEDB, SOPs, technical documentation, SLAs, and quality KPIs while mentoring L1 and L2 engineers. Required Qualifications At least 3 years of experience with cloud-based technologies such as AWS, including EC2, CloudFront, Lambda, SQS, and S3.Proficiency in backend development with Node.js, Python using Django or FastAPI, or Go, plus RESTful APIs, databases, and server-side architecture.Experience with application development lifecycle practices, production support, debugging, logs, monitoring, alerting, automation, and ITIL processes.Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, collaboration, stakeholder management, and independent ownership skills.A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience is required. Preferred Qualifications Frontend development experience with React or Angular, plus HTML, CSS, and responsive design.Experience with AI tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.Experience in media management, digital media distribution operations, or Agile environments.Ability to learn new technologies, identify opportunities, recommend solutions, and influence through clear explanations. Compensation The hiring range in Glendale, California is $117,500 to $157,500 per year.Base pay may vary based on internal equity, geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.Bonus, long-term incentive units, and benefits may be included depending on the level and position offered.
