Data Engineer | Brisbane | Contract Role | Queensland Government We're seeking an experienced Scientific Data Engineer to join a Queensland Government team supporting critical environmental monitoring, water quality reporting and scientific data initiatives. This is an opportunity to work on meaningful projects that help inform environmental decision-making across Queensland, while leveraging modern Azure data technologies and collaborating with scientists, analysts and technical specialists. The Role As the Scientific Data Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting and enhancing Azure-based data platforms, pipelines and applications that underpin scientific and environmental reporting. Key Responsibilities Include Maintaining and supporting Azure-based data pipelines and integrationsMonitoring and resolving issues across Data Factory, Databricks, Azure Functions and related servicesDesigning, developing and optimising ETL/ELT solutionsSupporting upgrades, testing, deployments and release activitiesInvestigating incidents, defects and performance issuesDeveloping technical and operational documentationCollaborating with scientists, analysts, developers and business stakeholdersProviding advice on data engineering standards, governance and best practicesContributing to platform improvements that enhance reliability, scalability and operational efficiency Essential Skills Microsoft Azure data services, including:Azure Data FactoryAzure Synapse AnalyticsAzure DatabricksAzure Storage technologiesAzure Function AppsDesigning and supporting ETL/ELT data pipelinesPython development for data engineering and data processingStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilitiesDesirable Experience Scientific, environmental or geospatial datasetsPublic-facing data portals and reporting platformsQueensland Government or large enterprise environmentsFAIR data principles and open data practices Qualifications Demonstrated professional experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform Support or related ICT disciplinesDegree qualification in IT, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering or a related field highly regardedRelevant Microsoft Azure certifications highly desirable If this sounds like a role for you, apply now!
