About The Role We are seeking a highly experienced Principal AI Software Engineer to join our team and drive the realization of Matrix42’s AI Your Way vision into secure, reliable, and impactful product capabilities. This is a hands-on, senior-level engineering role focused on designing, developing, testing, and operating production-grade AI solutions. As a technical leader, you will work closely with cross-functional teams—including product management, security, architecture, and support—to translate customer and product needs into innovative AI-enabled features. Your expertise will help shape scalable, enterprise-grade AI systems that integrate seamlessly into our multi-product platform. You will own end-to-end AI capabilities, from problem discovery and technical design to implementation, evaluation, deployment, and continuous improvement, ensuring high standards of quality, security, and trust. This role offers the opportunity to influence engineering practices, contribute reusable components, and establish best practices in applied AI within a complex enterprise environment. Qualifications 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a proven track record in product development and deployment.Extensive experience shipping and operating customer-facing software solutions.Proficiency in Python and strong skills in at least one product engineering language such as C#, TypeScript, or Java.Hands-on experience building production Large Language Model (LLM) or agentic AI applications, including retrieval, grounding, embeddings, structured outputs, tool calling, context management, and model routing.Deep understanding of data-intensive systems, including APIs, event streaming, data ingestion, transformation, storage, and observability.Solid system design fundamentals for distributed, cloud-native, multi-tenant SaaS products, with a focus on security, reliability, and performance.Experience evaluating and diagnosing AI systems through datasets, telemetry, automated tests, and production monitoring.Architectural judgment to balance conventional software solutions with AI-driven innovations.Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable plans.Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI/ML, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Responsibilities Own and deliver selected AI capabilities end-to-end—from problem discovery, technical design, implementation, evaluation, to deployment and ongoing refinement.Develop, review, and maintain production code for AI services, APIs, connectors, data pipelines, and product interfaces to ensure seamless workflows.Design agentic AI systems utilizing simple yet effective architectures, including retrieval, grounding, structured outputs, tool execution, and context management.Translate use cases into detailed data and platform requirements, working with APIs, event streams, data quality, metadata, and governance to ensure trustworthy AI results.Create early prototypes to validate concepts against real workflows, evolving successful solutions into secure, scalable product features.Integrate evaluation into engineering processes through datasets, telemetry, trace analysis, and automated testing to maintain high quality, safety, and performance standards.Engineer for enterprise trust by implementing tenant isolation, access controls, audit mechanisms, data minimization, and defenses against prompt injection and other security threats.Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams—Product, Design, Security, Support—to convert customer needs into measurable outcomes, reusable libraries, and best practices.Contribute to the development of scalable, secure, and maintainable AI-powered features aligned with enterprise requirements and standards.
