Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of full-stack engineers.Own technical execution and engineering quality for the payments platform.Partner with Product to turn business requirements into scalable technical solutions.Contribute to architecture and technical direction of a distributed system.Ensure high standards for reliability, scalability, resilience, maintainability, and security.Guide technical decisions around distributed systems, databases, APIs, asynchronous processing, and integrations.Drive improvements in system performance, observability, monitoring, and reliability.Ensure robust payment-processing practices including idempotency, retries, failure handling, reconciliation, and data consistency.Balance feature delivery, scalability improvements, and technical debt.Participate in architecture and code/design reviews.Improve engineering development and delivery processes.Support production systems, incident response, and root-cause analysis.Help hire and onboard new engineers as the team grows.Promote AI-powered engineering tools and workflows across design, development, testing, debugging, code review, and incident investigation.
Requirements
8+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend or full-stack development experience.2+ years of engineering management or technical leadership experience.Proven experience building and operating high-scale distributed systems in production.Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts: asynchronous processing, idempotency, retries, concurrency, data consistency, transactional integrity, and fault tolerance.Strong knowledge of relational databases, data modelling, transactions, and database performance.Experience with APIs and service-oriented architectures.Experience with event-driven or queue-based systems such as SQS, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar.Experience working with AWS or another major cloud platform.Strong understanding of testing, observability, monitoring, alerting, and production incident management.Ability to make pragmatic technical decisions balancing speed, quality, scalability, and maintainability.Strong communication and people leadership skills.Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Product, and business stakeholders.
