Summary
✨ AI‑Generated
A senior software engineer is sought to own the architecture and code quality of two companion applications across Mac and iPhone. The stack combines SwiftUI, SQLite and GRDB on Mac with React Native, Expo and TypeScript on mobile, sharing a database schema and regulatory calculation logic. Much of the implementation is AI-assisted, so the role places particular emphasis on reviewing generated code, designing reliable data flows, evaluating risks, and deciding what is safe and ready to ship.
Highlights
High-ownership engineering role spanning native Mac and mobile development, with substantial influence over architecture, data flows, code quality, and product safety. The role emphasizes thoughtful engineering and domain-driven decision-making rather than repetitive implementation.
Description
Thryma builds software for professional pilots, and later for the airlines they fly for.
Our first product, Thryma Log, is a pilot logbook for iPhone and Mac.
It reads an airline roster, fills the logbook, and works out duty, rest and currency against the rule set the pilot flies under.
It shipped on the App Store in August 2026.
The role
You would own the two Log apps at the code level.
The Mac app is SwiftUI over SQLite, using GRDB.
The iPhone app is React Native and Expo, in TypeScript.
They share one database schema and one set of regulatory calculations, and they sync through the pilot's own iCloud.
Most of the code was written with AI tools, directed by a pilot.
That is how we work, and it changes the job.
You will spend more of your time reviewing, designing data flows and deciding what is safe to ship than typing, and the person specifying a feature will usually know the domain better than you do.
What you will do
• Own architecture and code quality across the Mac and iPhone apps, including the shared SQLite schema and sync.
• Review AI-written changes before they reach a pilot's logbook.
A logbook is a career record.
We do not lose data.
• Build the parts that need an experienced hand: migrations, sync conflicts, export formats, signing, App Store releases.
• Work directly with the pilots on the team who specify features, and turn what they know into software that behaves.
• Put the guardrails in place: the tests, CI and release checks that let a small team ship often without breaking anything.
What you bring
• Several years shipping native Apple apps, with SwiftUI in production and enough AppKit or UIKit to fix what SwiftUI cannot.
• Real experience with React Native or a similar cross-platform stack, or a clear plan for getting fluent fast.
• Comfort with SQLite, schema migrations and local-first sync.
CloudKit experience helps.
• A habit of reading generated code critically.
You have opinions about when to trust it and when not to.
• Clear writing.
Most of our design discussion happens in text.
An aviation background is not required.
Interest helps, because the domain is dense and the people you work with live in it.
