Summary
✨ AI‑Generated
A senior software engineering role building edge software that orchestrates complex industrial energy sites and reliably communicates with connected equipment and cloud systems. You will design application-layer software in Go and Rust, work with embedded Linux, investigate networking and communication issues, and own components from architecture through deployment and debugging.
Highlights
Senior role with end-to-end ownership of meaningful software components, architectural responsibility, embedded systems work, and exposure to large-scale energy infrastructure.
Description
What To Expect
We are the team behind the software that run our fleet of Tesla's utility-scale battery energy storage sites.
Our application — the Site Controller — runs at the edge on embedded Linux and orchestrates the devices on a site (batteries, power meters, and more), manages configuration and redundancy, integrates with external equipment, and reliably pushes field telemetry up to the Tesla cloud.
Our software is written in Golang and Rust.
We are seeking a talented, motivated and independent senior engineer to join the team and own meaningful pieces of that stack end-to-end, from designing system architecture through to debugging deployments The ideal candidate will be proficient in programming in Go or Rust, have a strong grasp of the end-to-end networking process, demonstrated experience debugging communications on embedded Linux, and an eagerness to keep learning in an ever-evolving environment.
What You'll Do
Design, build, and own application-layer software (Go and Rust) for the Industrial Energy Site Controller on embedded Linux — settings management, telemetry, redundancy/failover, and external communications.
Own the edge/on-device telemetry software — collecting, buffering, and reliably pushing field data up to the Tesla cloud (we build the device side, not the cloud backend).
Integrate the Site Controller with external, non-Tesla systems, building edge proxy/bridge services (e.g.
OPC UA ↔ CODESYS) that abstract third-party equipment behind a consistent interface.
Build redundancy and high-availability into the site controller — failover, data/telemetry integrity, and resilient comms paths.
Partner with engineers across the Cloud/Backend, Validation/Test, Field/Deployment, and Kernel/OS teams to define integration test strategies and ship reliable software to deployed sites.
Debug complex issues across the full stack — from application logic down through transport to the underlying hardware, including live field deployments.
What You'll Bring
Completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Software, Electrical, Computer Systems, or a related field) 5+ years building production software; strong fundamentals in architecture, concurrency, and testing.
Proficiency in Go and/or Rust; with experience developing mission-critical applications on embedded Linux.
Comprehensive, end-to-end understanding of networking: ability to trace a conversation between two devices from the application layer down through transport (TCP/IP, sockets) to the Ethernet/physical layer, and reason about the hardware implications at each step.
Demonstrated experience debugging device-to-device communication on embedded Linux Experience integrating with industrial/utility protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, DNP3, SCADA, CAN) — or a demonstrated ability to pick up unfamiliar external protocols quickly.
Experience building on-device/edge data collection and ingestion on resource-constrained systems — reliable buffering and delivery to a backend over unreliable field networks.
Experience designing for redundancy, failover, and fault tolerance in distributed or field-deployed systems.
