Company Description: SiteMax is project management software for construction. Our customers are general contractors and trades, the people who run job sites, and they use us every day for reporting, drawings, scheduling, time tracking and budgets. We're a small team, so your work gets in front of customers quickly and you'll know the reason behind what you're building. Role Description: We're looking for a general developer, weighted toward front-end work and investigation. The day to day involves: Building and adjusting customer-facing features, forms and workflowsInvestigating reported issues and working out what is happening and whyRegular development work across our products as you get up to speedThis is a flexible position. Priorities move around on a small team, so we want someone adaptable who is comfortable picking up what the week needs Where we'd expect you to get to: Around three months: handling most day-to-day customer-driven work on your ownThree to six months: taking on regular development work alongside itYou'll have close support from a mentor throughout, and we plan to put proper time into getting you there. What we're looking for: You can read and work in code you didn't write. That counts for more here than writing something from scratch.Curiosity about why something broke, and the patience to find out.You can explain a technical thing clearly to someone non-technical.You're comfortable asking a question early instead of guessing for two days. What our ideal candidate has: A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related fieldStrong communication skills. Much of this role is understanding what someoneelse is describing, then explaining what you found. 1 to 2 years of experience with the standard web stack (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)Back-end development experience, ideally in PHPExperience with Git or another version control systemExperience working with relational databases and SQL Our main product is an established codebase with a lot of history in it. If you like understanding how large systems work after years of real use, you'll find plenty of that here. Details: Salary: CAD $50,000 to $60,000, depending on experienceCompensation review: Every six monthsLocation: Downtown Vancouver, beside Waterfront Station and directly on transit. Two days a week remote after a successful three-month review.Eligibility: You must be legally entitled to work in Canada. We're not able to sponsor visas.
