Description

Our Canberra-based federal government client is seeking to engage a suitably qualified and experienced ServiceNow Software Engineer to deliver critical digital and service outcomes. The ServiceNow Developer will be responsible for delivering high-quality, hands-on technical development across the client’s ServiceNow platform. The role requires strong, proven experience in ServiceNow configuration and custom development, with responsibility for designing, building, enhancing and supporting solutions across one or more ServiceNow products, including IT Service Management (ITSM), Human Resources Service Delivery (HRSD) and Customer Service Management (CSM). Working within an agile delivery team, the ServiceNow Developer will contribute across the full development lifecycle, including requirements refinement, solution design, build, testing, deployment and post-implementation support, and will work closely with product owners, business analysts, architects and operational teams to deliver secure, reliable and scalable solutions. The role will also contribute to platform maintenance activities, including upgrades, defect resolution, performance optimisation and technical documentation, and will be expected to operate with a high degree of independence, professionalism and technical proficiency to meet delivery timeframes and quality standards within a complex government environment. The candidate must hold an active Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance prior to commencement. Estimated start date - Monday, 05 October 2026 Initial contract duration - 05 October 2026 to 30 June 2027 Extension term - 12 months Number of extensions - 1 Experience level - APS6 equivalent Location of work - ACT Working arrangements - Hybrid Maximum hours - 40 hours per week Security clearance - Must have Negative Vetting Level 1 clearance Closing date - Friday September 11 Key duties and responsibilities The ServiceNow Developer will be responsible for, but not limited to: Performing coding (JavaScript) and configuration (Flow Designer, UI Builder, Business Rules) on the ServiceNow platform.Collaborate with business analysts, user researchers and service designers to understand business requirements and translate them into final working solutions.Enhance existing ServiceNow applications and modules.Work in accordance with agile principles and practices including participation in agile ceremonies.Document all technical designs, specifications, and knowledge transfer materials.Collaborate with IT and business teams to develop best practices for ServiceNow development.Stay on top of new ServiceNow features and functionalities and incorporate them into the development process.Contribute to the continuous improvement of the ServiceNow platform by providing recommendations for process and system enhancements. Any required travel will be discussed in advance and notice given wherever practicable. About the project The role sits within the client’s Application Platform Management Section, which is focused on consolidating application platforms and ensuring continuity of support. As a ServiceNow Developer, you will concentrate on the technical capabilities of the ServiceNow platform, delivering secure, scalable solutions that enhance business operations and service delivery. You’ll work across the full development lifecycle and collaborate with stakeholders to optimise performance, reliability, and compliance. The role will be part of the Chief Information Officer Division which delivers a range of ICT services to the agency including infrastructure, application development and communications. ICT services are delivered through a select sourcing model, with a mixture of in-house and outsourced resources. The Chief Information Officer Division is committed to building the agency’s information technology capability by providing resilient, modern, and secure systems informed by data and insights, and to upskill teams to develop innovative new products and services. Essential criteria • Current ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) certification. • Demonstrated, strong hands-on experience as a ServiceNow Developer delivering configuration and custom development within enterprise ServiceNow environments. • Proven experience across the full ServiceNow development lifecycle, including requirements refinement, solution design, build, testing, deployment and post-implementation support. • Strong skills in ServiceNow scripting and development technologies, including JavaScript, Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts, UI Policies and Flow Designer. • Demonstrated experience integrating ServiceNow with external systems using REST APIs, web services and authentication mechanisms. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to diagnose complex technical issues and implement sustainable solutions. • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical personnel. • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, manage competing priorities and meet delivery timeframes in a fast-paced environment. • Experience working in environments with strong governance, change management and security requirements. Desirable criteria • ServiceNow Product Certifications in one or more of the following: IT Service Management (ITSM), Human Resources Service Delivery (HRSD) and Customer Service Management (CSM). • Experience delivering solutions across ITSM, HRSD and/or CSM within medium to large organisations. • Experience supporting platform maintenance activities, including upgrades, patching, defect resolution, monitoring and performance optimisation. • Familiarity with ITIL or service management frameworks and their practical application within ServiceNow. • Experience working within Australian Government, regulated or security-sensitive ICT environments. • Experience working in agile or hybrid delivery environments.
