Description

We are looking for a Software Engineer to build and maintain the web-based operator interfaces of mission-critical Air Traffic Control systems. You will work in a collaborative team environment, solving complex technical problems while ensuring that our systems meet the highest standards of safety, usability and reliability. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain safety-critical software solutionsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and deliver featuresBuild responsive, high-performance user interfaces and reusable components for real-time operational displaysWrite clean, maintainable, and well-documented codeReview code and contribute to shared engineering standards and best practicesTest, debug, and improve software throughout the development lifecycleSupport deployment, monitoring, and ongoing improvement of production systemsAssist with writing operational and technical documentation Professional Requirements University degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related fieldProfessional experience building production web frontends with TypeScript and React (or a comparable component framework)Strong command of modern JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS, and browser fundamentals (rendering, state, async, debugging with browser devtools)Experience writing automated tests — unit and end-to-end (e.g. Vitest/Jest and Playwright/Cypress)Experience with CI/CD pipelines and development tooling (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab)Excellent communication and collaboration skills within cross-functional teamsEnglish language proficiency, both written and verbal Preferred Qualifications At least 3 years of professional experience in software development is preferredFamiliarity with modern build tooling (Vite/Webpack) and modular or plugin-based frontend architecturesExperience with state management at scale (Redux Toolkit or similar) and a component library (e.g. Mantine, MUI, Chakra)Experience with data-visualization or mapping libraries (D3, MapLibre, Leaflet)Experience with real-time data (WebSockets) and/or desktop delivery via ElectronA strong eye for accessibility, usability, and performance in operator-facing UIsA background in the ATM/ATC domain is a plusSolid problem-solving skills and an ability to work independentlyA user-centric approach combined with the ability and willingness to learn Who we are Tern Systems is an established and trusted provider of Air Traffic Management solutions, and operates in a competitive, regulated industry.
