Position Overview
Supply Ontario is seeking a Senior DevOps/Cloud Engineer to provide senior-level DevOps and platform engineering support for the Provincial Health Services Directory (PHSD) eReferral solution.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining reliable, secure, and repeatable build, deployment, infrastructure, runtime, and operational capabilities across AWS environments.
The role involves hands-on work with GitHub Actions, AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Python, JavaScript, Amazon EC2, Amazon ECS, Linux, Tomcat, Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, Mirth Connect, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, IAM, CloudWatch, SQS, Firehose, S3, and Secrets Manager.
The resource will also support SMART on FHIR/OAuth2/OIDC integrations, NetIQ IAM, eReferral platforms, IBM Master Data Management (MDM), FHIR Pub/Sub, and other healthcare integration components.
This position requires strong production-support capabilities, technical troubleshooting skills, infrastructure automation expertise, and the ability to collaborate effectively with application, integration, security, and architecture teams.
Key Responsibilities
CI/CD & Infrastructure as CodeMaintain and enhance GitHub Actions pipelines used to build, test, package, deploy, and promote application and infrastructure components across environments.Design, maintain, and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines and reusable workflow automation.Create, update, review, and troubleshoot AWS infrastructure as code using AWS CloudFormation and AWS CDK.Develop and maintain AWS CDK solutions using Python and JavaScript.Support release automation, environment promotion, deployment troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
AWS Cloud & Platform OperationsDeploy, configure, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot workloads running on Amazon EC2 and Amazon ECS.Support Linux and container-based workloads across development, test, staging, and production environments.Troubleshoot application runtime, configuration, networking, logging, and deployment issues.Manage and maintain standardized Linux images and automated image pipelines using AWS EC2 Image Builder.Configure and support AWS services including EC2, ECS, S3, CloudWatch, IAM, Secrets Manager, SQS, and Amazon Data Firehose.Support production deployments, incident response, root-cause analysis, patching, capacity management, and operational readiness.
Application & Runtime SupportTroubleshoot Tomcat, Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, Linux, and container runtime issues.Support application configuration, environment-specific settings, runtime dependencies, logs, certificates, and secrets.Identify and resolve deployment and production issues across multiple environments.Maintain operational documentation, deployment procedures, recovery procedures, and runbooks.
Mirth Connect & Healthcare IntegrationDeploy, configure, maintain, upgrade, monitor, and troubleshoot Mirth Connect running in Amazon ECS.Manage ECS services, task definitions, container configurations, Mirth channels, and connectors.Troubleshoot JVM/runtime behavior, secure endpoints, certificates, secrets, logs, and network connectivity.Maintain connectivity and integration dependencies with external healthcare and provincial systems.Support integrations involving eReferral platforms, IBM MDM, FHIR Pub/Sub, and related healthcare services.
Database & OpenSearch OperationsAdminister and support PostgreSQL or comparable enterprise database platforms.Manage database connectivity, access, configuration, backup and recovery, performance, capacity, and operational troubleshooting.Administer Amazon OpenSearch Service clusters, including:Cluster healthNodes and storage capacityIndexes and mappingsAccess controlsQuery performanceScalingUpgrades and configuration changesOperational maintenance and troubleshooting IAM, SMART on FHIR & OAuthMaintain enterprise identity and access management integrations using NetIQ or comparable IAM platforms.Configure and support SMART on FHIR and OAuth2/OIDC application settings.Manage OAuth2/OIDC clients, redirect URIs, scopes, authorization endpoints, token endpoints, roles, permissions, service identities, and secrets.Troubleshoot authentication and authorization issues across environments.Maintain secure application and infrastructure access required for PHSD integrations.
Monitoring, Security & Production SupportImplement and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, dashboards, and operational diagnostics using Amazon CloudWatch and related AWS services.Support incident response, root-cause analysis, change management, patching, backup/recovery, and capacity management.Maintain secure configuration, IAM permissions, certificates, secrets, and environment-specific deployment settings.Collaborate with application, infrastructure, security, integration, and architecture teams.Produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, deployment guides, operational procedures, and knowledge-transfer materials.
Required Skills & Experience

Engagement & Work Arrangement
This engagement is for 150 Business Days, with an option to extend for up to an additional 251 Business Days at the Agency’s discretion.The resource must comply with all Agency policies and procedures.The position is currently classified as Hybrid; however, the resource may be required to work onsite based on the Hiring Manager’s discretion.The Agency will provide a laptop.The resource is expected to provide at least one additional monitor, external keyboard, and mouse at their own expense.When working remotely, the resource must have a private office space and cannot work from an open communal space.A suitable hard-wired internet connection and bandwidth are required for remote work.If the home-office requirements cannot be met, the resource may be required to work full-time onsite.Agency systems cannot be accessed from outside the Province of Ontario.Agency laptops and related equipment cannot be removed from Ontario without prior written approval.
