Summary ✨ AI‑Generated

Join a senior engineering team tackling the migration of a mature, extensible production platform from virtual machines to a managed Kubernetes environment. You will prepare application workloads for containerized deployment, build and maintain delivery workflows, and solve complex problems around runtime extensibility and immutable images. A dedicated infrastructure team operates the Kubernetes platform, allowing you to focus on application-side engineering without cluster administration or platform on-call duties.

Highlights

Work on a challenging modernization initiative involving migration of a long-running production platform to Kubernetes. Focus on application engineering rather than cluster administration, with a dedicated platform team handling infrastructure and on-call responsibilities.

Description

The problem you would be solving: A platform that has been in production for over two decades is moving off virtual machines and onto Google Kubernetes Engine. That sentence makes it sound like a packaging exercise. It is not. The platform is extensible at runtime: its users deploy their own plugins, rules and domain extensions into it while it runs. So what is actually executing inside a given container is not fully known at the moment the image is built. Reconciling that with immutable images is the central open design question of this migration, and nobody has the answer written down yet. If that problem sounds interesting rather than alarming, keep reading. What you would do: You work on the application side of the migration. A dedicated platform team already operates the Kubernetes and GKE infrastructure, so this is not a cluster administration role and you will not be on call for the platform. You prepare application workloads to run on GKE, build and maintain the delivery pipelines behind them, and solve the migration problems that only appear once real traffic moves. The work is not a lift and shift. Parts of the system predate the cloud native tooling that now replaces them, including an in house process scheduler that is being retired, so some of what you touch gets redesigned rather than wrapped. What we need from you: This is an unusual list in one respect: our client stated explicitly that there is no nice to have tier. Every line is a requirement, and you will be asked to demonstrate each one in the technical interview.
