A versatile Platform Engineer is sought to work across a broad infrastructure landscape supporting both customer and internal initiatives. Responsibilities may range from building virtualization clusters and troubleshooting storage replication to securing firewall environments and automating lengthy build processes. Curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies are central to the role.
Highlights
Broad infrastructure role offering exposure to virtualization, storage, networking security, automation, and customer and internal projects. The position emphasizes learning, autonomy, and opportunities to develop into new technical areas within a rapidly scaling environment.
Description
The client is the fastest growing technology company in Scotland, with plans to deploy and invest over £2 billion in the coming years.
You would be joining at a relatively early stage of that trajectory.
For the right person, this is a chance to build something from the ground up inside a business that is scaling fast.
About the Role
You will be an infrastructure generalist working across a broad range of technologies to deliver both customer and internal projects.
One day you might be building out a virtualisation cluster for a customer, the next you could be troubleshooting a storage replication issue, hardening a firewall estate, or automating a build process that currently takes hours.
This is a wide role rather than a narrow one.
We are looking for someone who enjoys breadth, is comfortable being the person who picks up an unfamiliar technology and works it out, and who wants to keep learning.
You will be given the time, support and opportunity to develop into new areas.
Alongside business-as-usual project delivery, you will contribute to the design and build of next-generation cloud and HPC platform, the infrastructure that will underpin our AI and high-performance computing services for years to come.
It is a rare chance to help shape a platform from the ground up rather than inherit someone else's.
About You
The successful candidate will be comfortable with breadth and happy to move between technologies rather than specialise.
They will be curious, preferring to understand why something broke rather than just restart it, and pragmatic about automation, automating what's genuinely worth automating rather than automating for its own sake.
They will also be a clear communicator, able to explain technical detail to both customers and non-technical colleagues, and capable of working independently on project delivery while knowing when to ask for input.
What You'll Be Doing
Designing, building, and supporting virtualisation, compute, storage, network and backup infrastructure across our data centresDelivering customer projects end to end, from scoping and design through to build, migration and handoverDelivering internal infrastructure projects that improve our platforms, resilience and efficiencyAutomating repetitive build and configuration work rather than doing it by hand twiceContributing to the architecture and build of future cloud and HPC platformTroubleshooting complex, cross-domain issues where the cause could sit anywhere between the switch port and the applicationProducing and maintaining clear documentation and as-built recordsProviding escalation support to colleagues

This is a core part of the job, not a nice-to-have
We don't expect you to be an expert in all of the above.
What matters is that you're genuinely hands-on across most of it, and comfortable working in a live production environment.

If you tick a lot of the desirable list but only some of the essential, apply anyway.
That's where our platform is heading, and we'd rather hire for that strength and fill gaps than the reverse.
