About the Role We are looking for a Senior Ruby on Rails Developer to join a transformation project for an international luxury travel company. The project involves migrating and modernizing a critical internal back-office application used by the operations and concierge teams to manage bookings, trips, properties, guests, owners, vehicles, payments, taxes, and related workflows. You will primarily work on the Ruby on Rails backend, taking ownership of features from technical planning and data modeling through development, testing, and release. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain applications using Ruby on Rails 7.1+ Own features end-to-end: planning, design, development, testing, and release Contribute to a complex Rails migration from an existing ASP.NET/MS SQL system Design and optimize database schemas and data models using PostgreSQL Analyze existing business logic and translate it into the new Rails architecture Build and integrate external systems such as CRM and payment gateways Develop secure and scalable backend functionality for sensitive customer data Work with Inertia.js and React when frontend involvement is required Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested production code Participate in code reviews and technical discussions Troubleshoot production issues and improve application reliability Work with feature flags and gradual feature rollouts Use AI coding tools/agents to improve development efficiency Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and Engineering teams Required Skills 5–6+ years of professional Ruby on Rails experience Strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails 7+ Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL Excellent database design, normalization, and data modeling skills Experience working with complex business domains and legacy-system migrations Strong understanding of backend architecture and application design Experience integrating third-party APIs and external systems Strong understanding of application security and data protection Experience writing automated tests and production-quality code Good understanding of CI/CD and cloud/containerized environments Good English communication skills Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities Ability to work independently and take ownership of features Technical Environment Ruby on Rails 7.1+ PostgreSQL Inertia.js React Hotwire/Turbo Sprockets / Propshaft esbuild / Vite AWS / ECS Sentry Grafana CloudWatch Mapbox Pundit Feature flagging CI/CD Trunk-based development Nice to Have Experience with travel, hospitality, booking, or e-commerce platforms Experience migrating applications from ASP.NET / MS SQL Server Experience with complex back-office or operations platforms React experience Payment gateway integration experience Familiarity with UX and component-based frontend development Experience using AI coding agents Important Next.js is not a mandatory requirement.
