Job Description
A bit about the job and what you’ll deliver…
As a Senior Frontend Developer, you'll take ownership of a modern React and TypeScript application, helping to shape its architecture and deliver high-quality, accessible and responsive features.
You'll work across the frontend stack, from component design and application architecture through to build tooling, testing and integration with AWS Amplify and AppSync/GraphQL services.
You'll have the opportunity to make sound technical decisions, improve existing patterns and help set engineering standards across the frontend.
Working closely with designers, backend engineers and Product, you'll deliver polished, production-ready features while continually improving performance, maintainability, developer experience and the overall quality of the platform.
Please note, this is a remote role with attendance required at our office in Winnersh from time to time.
What you’ll do…
Design, build, and maintain production features in a React 18+ TypeScript applicationOwn and improve our Vite-based development and build pipeline, including custom plugin configurationDesign reusable, maintainable components and frontend architectureBuild accessible, responsive user interfaces using Ant Design and custom SCSSIntegrate frontend features with AWS Amplify and AppSync/GraphQL backendsWork with GraphQL schemas and client-side data-fetching patterns to deliver reliable application featuresImplement and maintain internationalization (i18n) across the applicationWrite and maintain high-quality unit and integration tests using Vitest, Testing Library, and MSWIdentify and address frontend performance, usability, accessibility, and maintainability issuesContribute to and enforce engineering standards around linting, formatting, testing, and pre commit checksParticipate in code reviews and architecture discussions, providing thoughtful technical feedbackHelp maintain frontend dependencies and contribute to security and vulnerability auditingInvestigate and resolve production issues and technical debtCollaborate with designers, backend engineers, and product stakeholders to deliver polished, production-ready featuresContribute to improvements in developer experience, shared tooling, and reusable components
What we’re looking for…
Required Skills & Experience
Core Framework & Language
Strong hands-on experience with React, including hooks, component composition, state management patterns, and react-domSolid TypeScript experience building and maintaining production applicationsStrong understanding of modern frontend architecture and application designExperience with Vite or a comparable modern frontend build tool, including configuration and pluginsFamiliarity with SVG asset handling and integrating frontend build tooling into a production workflow
UI & Styling
Experience building production-quality interfaces with Ant Design, Material UI, or a comparable component libraryStrong CSS and Sass/SCSS skills, including shared styles, mixins, variables, and build-tool integrationFamiliarity with PostCSS, Autoprefixer, and modern CSS build pipelinesExperience building responsive interfaces across different screen sizes and devicesExperience working with interactive UI components such as colour pickers, forms, data tables, and complex controlsStrong understanding of web accessibility and accessible component design
Routing
Strong experience with React Router or a comparable client-side routing solutionUnderstanding of nested routes, route-based code organization, protected routes, and navigation patternsExperience structuring larger React applications for maintainability and scalability
Data & Backend Integration
Experience integrating React applications with AWS services, particularly AWS AmplifyWorking knowledge of GraphQL and experience consuming schemas in frontend applicationsExperience working with AWS AppSync or a comparable GraphQL backendUnderstanding of authentication and API integration patterns
Internationalization
Experience implementing and maintaining i18n in production web applicationsFamiliarity with i18next, react-i18next, or comparable internationalization frameworksUnderstanding of language detection, translation management, interpolation, pluralization, and locale-aware UI behaviour
Testing
Strong testing practices using Vitest, Jest, or an equivalent test runnerExperience with Testing Library and user-focused component testingExperience mocking APIs and network requests using MSW or comparable toolingFamiliarity with jsdom-based test environmentsA strong focus on writing reliable tests that provide meaningful confidence
Code Quality & Tooling
Experience configuring and maintaining ESLint, including TypeScript, React, React Hooks, and import-related rulesFamiliarity with dependency management, vulnerability auditing, and frontend security practicesUnderstanding of CI-friendly development workflows and automated quality checks
Qualifications
A degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent experience AWS certification is highly desirable but not essential
