Summary
✨ AI‑Generated
Join a high-autonomy engineering team as a Full Stack Engineer responsible for evolving the frontend and backend systems that connect users with a machine-learning platform. You will translate complex algorithmic and analytical outputs into intuitive interfaces, build data visualizations and analytics experiences, and develop reliable web systems across the stack.
Highlights
Early-stage engineering opportunity with high ownership, focused on building the interface between machine-learning systems and technical users. The role spans frontend and backend development and involves translating complex analytical outputs into intuitive interfaces.
Description
About Sunthetics
Sunthetics is a no-code platform for AI-guided experimentation that allows chemical R&D teams to reach better results in record time.
Our AI engine learns from as few as five data points, runs transparently rather than as a black box, and requires no data-science expertise to use.
Teams at companies like Merck, FMC, and J-STAR use Sunthetics to cut development timelines and reduce experimental waste.
We are an early-stage, founder-led, venture-backed team scaling now.
The Role
We are looking for a Full Stack Developer who can own and evolve the interface layer of SuntheticsML—the primary touchpoint between our proprietary machine learning engine and the scientists who rely on it.
This is not a generic web dev role.
You will build and maintain the frontend and backend systems that connect directly to our ML platform, translating complex algorithmic outputs (Bayesian Optimization results, contour plots, radar charts, campaign analytics) into an intuitive, high-performance user experience.
You will work alongside our ML engineers and backend team to ship features that directly impact how enterprise clients interact with our technology, as well as partner with our Product team and UI designers on optimal user experience.
This role demands someone who thrives in a fast-moving startup, can operate independently, and brings a bias toward action and quality.
What You Will Do
Full stack development
– Own the full stack: from responsive UI components to REST/GraphQL APIs to database schema design and cloud infrastructure.
– Design and implement frontend features that surface ML-driven insights: interactive data visualizations (contour plots, radar charts, optimization results), campaign management dashboards, and collaborative project workflows.
– Build, maintain, and extend the SuntheticsML web application—the core product interface used by enterprise R&D teams.
– Develop and maintain backend APIs that integrate with the SuntheticsML engine, handling data ingestion, campaign orchestration, user management, and result delivery.
Software design
– Collaborate closely with the ML team to ensure stable, versioned integration between the ML package and the platform backend—resolving the kinds of ML–backend handoff challenges common in ML-powered products.
– Drive frontend architecture decisions: component structure, state management, testing strategy, and CI/CD pipeline improvements.
Process execution
– Contribute to infrastructure: AWS deployment pipelines, Docker-based local/staging environments, feature flag systems, and monitoring/alerting.
– Write and maintain technical documentation for the codebase and system architecture.
What You Bring
Required
– 4+ years of professional full-stack development experience with modern web technologies.
– Strong proficiency in frontend frameworks (React preferred) and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
– Solid backend experience with Python (Django or FastAPI) and RESTful API design.
– Experience building interfaces that connect to ML or data-intensive backend services—you understand what it takes to surface algorithmic outputs in a clean, performant UI.
– Hands-on experience with AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, or equivalent), Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
– Comfort working with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and data modeling.
– Experience with data visualization libraries (D3.js, Plotly, Chart.js, or similar).
– Ability to work independently in a startup environment—you ship, you iterate, you take ownership.
– Strong written communication skills; ability to document technical decisions and collaborate asynchronously.
Strong pluses
– Experience with ML-powered products or scientific/technical SaaS platforms.
– Familiarity with Bayesian Optimization, lab experiment design, or scientific data workflows.
– Experience with Shape Up or similar product development methodologies.
– Exposure to ML Ops concepts (model versioning, ML pipeline integration, feature flags for model rollouts).
– Experience working with separate frontend/backend repositories and managing cross-repo dependencies.
– Background in chemistry, materials science, or pharma R&D is a strong differentiator.
Who thrives in this role
– You are at home owning an ambiguous space: you would rather own the whole stack in a fast-moving start-up than execute a narrow slice of a mature roadmap.
– You love the challenge of finding elegant solutions while also knowing that shipping beats perfection.
– You’re excited to live at the boundary between machine learning and software, turning complex algorithmic outputs into intuitive user experience.
– You are excited by chemistry, AI, and the potential to transform how medicines and other chemical products are made.
Sunthetics is an equal opportunity employer.
