We are seeking individuals who value operational excellence and innovation to join our growing team. We are looking for a Software Engineer to join Covet Health. Our team is dedicated to building healthcare solutions that envision a more accessible and affordable healthcare system. The ideal candidate is a proactive individual who can handle multiple tasks effectively and collaborate well with a team. This individual will get to play a critical role in the product vision, server architecture, and API strategy of the company. You will be a lead backend developer responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of server-side systems, databases, and microservices, working with existing engineers to deploy enhancements to existing products. You should excel in working with complex, high-throughput systems and data pipelines, have outstanding communication skills, and enjoy learning new technologies/methods. Role and ResponsibilitiesKey Role: As an early part of the engineering team, you will contribute significantly to setting the architectural direction, backend system design, and building the server-side foundation.Collaboration with Leadership: Work closely with the CTO and other founders to develop both customer-facing backend APIs and the company's internal infrastructure, cloud services, and data models.Innovation in Healthcare: Leverage your expertise to address major challenges in the healthcare industry, building resilient system architectures that support the entire development lifecycle from ideation to production.Development of Core Products: Support the build-out of Covet Health's core backend infrastructure serving all of our stakeholders including providers, brokers, members, and employers. This will include designing robust APIs, serverless services, and backend integrations for mobile and web applications.Code Quality: Write clean, high-quality, high-performance, maintainable code, adhering to backend software engineering best practices.Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with frontend/mobile developers and other teams to design clean API contracts, ensure projects align with business objectives, and satisfy compliance standards.Product Support: Assist in performance tuning, database optimization, system monitoring, and the deployment of new microservices, with an ongoing commitment to system uptime and stability.Peer Review: Actively engage in code reviews and architectural discussions, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.Security Mindset: You are careful with data and understand or are willing to learn HIPAA constraints. You prioritize building server infrastructure and APIs with modern, advanced security, authentication mechanisms, and encryption to ensure the continuous protection of PHI and other sensitive data. Preferred QualificationsExperience: 2+ years of full-time backend software development experience, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to take on complex backend infrastructure projects.Education: B.S. degree in Computer Science or related discipline (e.g., engineering, physics, data science) or demonstrable relevant experience.Adaptability: Willingness and ability to learn new skills and techniques. We value diverse experiences and curiosity.Backend Services & APIs: Strong experience in building scalable backend services, microservices, and APIs (e.g., Spring Boot, Python FastAPI/Flask, Node.js, REST, GraphQL, gRPC).Databases & Caching: Deep understanding of database design, query optimization, and data modeling across different store types: SQL, NoSQL, and caching layers (e.g., PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB, ArangoDB).Architecture & Cloud: Strong knowledge of modern application architectures (Monolith vs. Microservice, event-driven architectures) and cloud infrastructure tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/GCP, Serverless/Lambda/Cloud Functions).Integrations & Message Queues: Experience integrating third-party APIs and using message brokers/queues (e.g., RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka, Pub/Sub) for asynchronous processing.Cyber Security: Strong understanding of backend security best practices (e.g., OAuth2, JWT, rate limiting, encryption at rest/in transit) and a willingness to apply them to healthcare data standards.Codebase Management & DevOps: Experience managing scalable codebases, writing comprehensive unit/integration tests, and automating deployments using CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
