SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid, 2-3 days/week onsite). About This Role TogetherWork is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, reporting to the Senior Director, Software Development, responsible for designing, building, delivering, and supporting high-quality SaaS applications across front-end and back-end systems. This is a full-stack ownership role. You will own features from design through production, bringing at least 7+ years of experience and deep expertise in modern full-stack development. You will combine hands-on development, technical leadership, cloud and SRE practices, and cross-functional collaboration to build secure, scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions on AWS, while mentoring other developers and contributing to sound architecture decisions. This role is best suited to an engineer who wants to own delivery end-to-end rather than work a single layer of the stack alone. What You'll Do Design, develop, test, implement, document, maintain, and support features across SaaS applications.Build and maintain reusable, accessible, secure, and scalable front-end and back-end components.Write clean, well-documented, and testable code that follows architectural and engineering best practices.Contribute to technical vision and lead feature design while considering long-term impacts, failure scenarios, non-functional requirements, and production readiness.Collaborate with Product Managers and Product Owners to understand and refine functional and non-functional requirements.Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing; mentor junior and mid-level developers.Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues across non-production and production environments.Use cloud-first technologies, CI/CD, automation, monitoring, logging, and SRE practices to improve delivery efficiency and platform reliability.Coordinate with Infrastructure teams on technical debt, system upgrades, deployment needs, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.Drive or contribute to technical decisions involving architecture patterns, technology selection, security, data design, and integration approaches.Maintain awareness of industry trends and evaluate relevant tools, frameworks, languages, and AI-assisted development practices.Use approved AI tools as active components of the daily development workflow to accelerate implementation, debugging, testing, documentation, dashboards, backend logic, and integrations; critically evaluate AI-generated output for security, maintainability, correctness, and production readiness.Implement secure authentication and authorization using approaches such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, token-based access, signed URLs, and role- or claims-based permissions.Handle keys, tokens, and sensitive data in accordance with secure coding and security best practices, including OWASP principles.Implement monitoring, logging, unit testing, integration testing, and safe deployment strategies to improve reliability.Use feature flags and incremental rollout practices where appropriate to reduce production risk and avoid customer disruption.Commit to overall deliverables with management and perform other duties as assigned. What You'll Bring 7+ years of professional software development experience, including building and supporting scalable, highly available, and resilient applications.Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, design patterns, clean code practices, and asynchronous programming.Experience designing, developing, and consuming REST APIs; experience with GraphQL, event-driven systems, and microservices architectures is a plus.Strong analytical, debugging, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and own deliverables from development through production.Proven experience using AI tooling, daily, for AI-native development.Polyglot programming experience with proficiency across multiple languages and frameworks.Strong experience with PHP and modern PHP frameworks such as Laravel, Symfony, or similar.Strong experience with Python and Python frameworks such as Django, Flask, FastAPI, or similar.Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frameworks such as React, Node.js, Vue.js, or Angular.Experience with additional languages such as Java, Go, Ruby, or similar is a strong plus.Experience writing unit and integration tests for backend and full-stack applications.Strong hands-on experience with modern JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks such as React, Vue.js, or Angular, including HTML5, jQuery, and CSS.Experience with modern component-based development, state management, routing, forms, API integration, authentication, error handling, caching, and client-side state management.Experience building responsive, accessible, reusable, and maintainable UI components and integrating web applications with REST or GraphQL APIs.Familiarity with npm or equivalent package-management tooling and modern frontend testing frameworks.Strong knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar; experience with Redis or DynamoDB is a plus.Experience writing, troubleshooting, and optimizing SQL queries, joins, stored procedures, transactions, constraints, and indexes.Strong understanding of relational database design, normalization, relationships, migrations, concurrency, transactions, and data integrity.Experience with AWS; relevant services may include EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, ECS, and EKS.Proficiency with Git and modern source-control workflows, including pull requests and code reviews.Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated build, test, and deployment processes using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.Familiarity with Docker and containerized applications; Kubernetes experience is a plus.Experience with application logging, monitoring, observability, debugging, and production troubleshooting using tools such as CloudWatch or Datadog.Automation and scripting experience using Bash, Python, PowerShell, or equivalent tools.Good understanding of Agile/Scrum development processes.Ability to translate business and technical requirements into scalable technical solutions.Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with modern software development practices.People leadership experience is a plus; this is primarily a hands-on technical role.
