Job Title: Lead Backend Engineer – PHP / Adobe Commerce (Magento 2)Overview / SummaryWe are seeking a Lead Backend Engineer with 6+ years of backend development experience and strong expertise in PHP and Adobe Commerce/Magento 2.
This role requires hands-on experience with Magento APIs, GraphQL, REST APIs, event-driven architecture, cloud-native services, performance optimization, automated testing, CI/CD, and production support.
The engineer will also mentor team members and partner closely with the Architect on implementation decisions.
Key ResponsibilitiesBuild and extend Magento APIs, GraphQL resolvers, modules, services, plugins, observers, cron jobs, and message-queue consumers.Build REST/GraphQL APIs and service layers that decouple frontend applications from Magento and other backend systems.Integrate with catalog, pricing, inventory, promotions, customer/identity, PIM, ERP, and OMS platforms.Implement and support event-driven architecture and messaging using RabbitMQ or similar asynchronous messaging platforms.Work with AWS/cloud-native services, caching, databases, queues, observability, and distributed-system troubleshooting.Address Magento performance considerations, including indexing, database load, caching, asynchronous processing, and high-volume catalog/order workloads.Build middleware/adapters that map new commerce services into existing Magento GraphQL/API contracts during a phased migration.Perform automated testing, CI/CD, code reviews, debugging, and production support.Serve as a senior hands-on technical lead and mentor engineers.Partner closely with the Architect on implementation decisions.Required Qualifications6+ years of backend development experience.Strong PHP and Adobe Commerce/Magento 2 expertise.Deep experience with Magento APIs, GraphQL resolvers, modules, services, plugins, observers, cron jobs, and message-queue consumers.Strong experience building REST/GraphQL APIs and service layers.Experience integrating with catalog, pricing, inventory, promotions, customer/identity, PIM, ERP, and OMS platforms.Strong event-driven architecture and messaging experience, preferably with RabbitMQ or similar asynchronous messaging platforms.Experience with AWS/cloud-native services, caching, databases, queues, observability, and distributed-system troubleshooting.Strong understanding of Magento performance, including indexing, database load, caching, asynchronous processing, and high-volume catalog/order workloads.Experience building middleware/adapters for phased commerce migrations.Strong automated testing, CI/CD, code-review, debugging, and production-support experience.Ability to work as a senior hands-on technical lead, mentor engineers, and partner with an Architect
