If you're looking for an engineering role that might make your brain hurt a little bit, in a good way, this is probably worth a conversation.
I'm working with an ambitious, early-stage AI company building the product, platforms and infrastructure that sit around increasingly capable AI systems, turning them into software that can actually be relied upon in complex, real-world environments.
They're looking for Senior Product Engineers who want to own considerably more than a slice of the stack.
You'll work across backend systems, data models, APIs and frontend experiences, while contributing to the product decisions and technical foundations that will shape the company as it grows.
What you'll be doing:
Owning product problems end-to-end across Python, React and TypeScriptDesigning thoughtful APIs, schemas and data models that will need to stand the test of timeBuilding intuitive, high-quality user experiences around technically complex systemsIntegrating external systems, services and data into a cohesive platformTaking loosely defined problems from whiteboard through to productionInfluencing architecture, tooling and engineering patterns while the foundations are still being establishedWorking closely with Product, Design and other highly technical people to decide what should be built, not simply implementing what you're given
What they're looking for:
Strong full stack engineering experience, ideally across Python and React/TypeScriptEngineers who care deeply about the craft of software, from typing and API design through to maintainability and UXStrong product judgement and an interest in understanding users and the problems behind the feature requestExperience owning technically difficult or ambiguous problems through to productionConfidence contributing to architecture and technical direction without disappearing down an overengineering rabbit holeClear communication, intellectual curiosity and the confidence to challenge other smart people when you disagreeExperience building AI-powered products end-to-end is beneficial, whether through LLM APIs, RAG, agentic workflows, LangChain/LangGraph, MCP, vector search or similar tooling
The technical bar is high, deliberately so.
You'll be surrounded by seriously intelligent, curious and ambitious people, working on problems where the answer isn't sitting neatly in a Jira ticket waiting to be implemented.
There's significant complexity to unpick, plenty of greenfield engineering and an expectation that you'll understand why you're building something before deciding how.
Why join?
Serious technical problems, working on systems complex enough to stretch experienced engineers rather than another CRUD app with AI sprinkled on topAn unusually high-calibre team, surrounded by intelligent and ambitious people who will challenge how you think and give you plenty to learn fromSignificant growth prospects, joining early enough to influence the product, engineering culture and technical foundations as the company scalesReal product ownership, with engineers expected to gather context, make decisions and take work all the way from an ambiguous problem to something users rely onA strong position within the AI ecosystem, without needing to become an ML researcher; you'll be building the products and systems that make increasingly capable AI useful in practice
This isn't necessarily the role for someone looking for their next comfortable engineering job.
It is for someone ambitious who wants something serious, technically challenging and full of opportunities to grow alongside people operating at a very high level!
If that sounds like your kind of challenge, drop me a message at imogen@sr2rec.co.uk.
