Role Description The Software Engineer will design, develop, test, and maintain backend software components and services that power PIPERHOOK’s applications. Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing new features, fixing defects, optimizing performance, and collaborating with product and other engineering team members to refine requirements and technical solutions. The role involves writing clean, maintainable code, performing code reviews, and contributing to software architecture and documentation. The Software Engineer will also participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, and other engineering ceremonies to ensure timely delivery of high-quality software. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Birmingham. Qualifications Strong foundation in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.Experience in Software Development and Programming, with proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript).Knowledge of Back-End Web Development, including RESTful APIs, databases (SQL/NoSQL), and server-side frameworks.Practical understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and design patterns for building modular, maintainable systems.Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git), testing frameworks, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices.Ability to analyze requirements, troubleshoot issues, and deliver solutions in a collaborative team environment.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.Strong communication skills and willingness to engage in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and ongoing learning.
