Role Overview We are looking for a Backend Developer to join our Kuala Lumpur team and take a key role in building and operating scalable, high-performance backend systems for enterprise fintech platforms. You will work on production-critical services, contribute to architectural decisions, and mentor other engineers while collaborating closely with product managers, architects, and international teams. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy ownership, complex systems, and real-world impact. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIsBuild and evolve microservices-based architectures for enterprise financial platformsDevelop backend solutions using Java (Spring Boot)Collaborate with customer, architects, project managers, and engineers to define and deliver robust solutionsEnsure systems meet high standards for reliability, security, performance, and maintainabilityParticipate in technical design discussions, code reviews, and architectural reviewsTroubleshoot and resolve complex production issues following defined escalation proceduresWork with customer to support/troubleshoot integration with customerParticipate in incident response, root cause analysis (RCA), and system resilience improvementsIntegrate with third-party systems including financial services, data providers, CRM, and compliance platformsMaintain technical documentation, API specifications, and operational runbooksContinuously improve development processes, tooling, and engineering standards Required Technical Skills 0-3 years of experience in backend software developmentStrong hands-on experience with Java (Spring Boot)Solid understanding of RESTful API design and microservices architecturesExperience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and exposure to NoSQL databasesExperience with AWS, GCP or other cloud platformsHands-on experience with event-driven systems and messaging platforms (e.g., Apache Kafka)Experience writing unit and integration testsGood working knowledge of Linux-based systemsComfortable supporting systems in production environmentsStrong command of written and spoken English Nice to Have Exposure to data streaming and processing technologies (Kafka Streams, Spark, NiFi, Camel, Storm)Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelinesShell scripting experienceKnowledge of authentication, authorization, and secure API designBackground in fintech, banking, credit bureaus, or data-intensive platformsExperience working with distributed or cross-region teams Soft Skills & Mindset Ownership and accountabilityStrong analytical and troubleshooting skillsClear and effective communication in a multicultural environmentComfortable in stakeholder-facing discussionsCollaborative team player with a proactive mindsetAbility to balance delivery speed with long-term system quality
