About the Opportunity:
The Full Stack Software Engineer develops and enhances the web application and API layers of an education data platform.
This role transforms complex educational data into accessible and reliable insights for institutional users while supporting better student outcomes.
The position works across frontend, backend, data, and infrastructure concerns to deliver secure, maintainable software aligned with user and organizational needs.
Responsibilities:
• Design, build, test, and maintain frontend web applications and backend APIs.
• Translate product requirements and user needs into clean, reliable, and well-tested code.
• Own feature development through the full lifecycle, from design and implementation to deployment and maintenance.
• Collaborate with Product and Customer Success teams to develop solutions aligned with user needs.
• Contribute to frontend architecture and API design standards.
• Support data pipeline and integration initiatives in collaboration with Data Engineering.
• Assist with infrastructure decisions related to application performance, scalability, and security.
• Implement authentication and authorization controls for applications handling sensitive data.
• Partner with Data Science teams to operationalize analytics and models into production features.
• Participate in code reviews and follow established engineering standards and development practices.
• Document technical processes, architectural decisions, and system functionality.
• Improve internal tools, workflows, and engineering processes through continuous improvement.
Requirements:
• 3–5 years of full stack software engineering experience with ownership of both frontend and backend components.
• Proficiency with modern JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks such as React.
• Experience developing backend services and APIs using Python or similar technologies.
• Experience with GCP, Python, and SQL to support application infrastructure and data pipelines.
• Strong understanding of RESTful and/or GraphQL API design.
• Experience writing automated tests and working within CI-enforced testing environments.
• Strong understanding of data modeling and interactions between applications and data pipelines.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, data science, product, and customer-facing teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Alignment with the organization's mission and commitment to educational equity.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with PHP and Laravel.
• Experience integrating OpenAI API or Anthropic API capabilities.
• Familiarity with Git workflows and CI/CD tools.
• Experience integrating AI-powered features into software applications.
• Knowledge of authentication and authorization patterns.
• Experience working with education data systems or compliance standards such as SOC 2 and FERPA.
• Exposure to civic technology, nonprofit, or mission-driven data environments.
Pay Range and Compensation Package:
• Salary range: $85,000–$90,000 annually.
• Actual compensation within the range will be based on experience, qualifications, and internal salary equity considerations.
