Description

Job DescriptionWe are on the lookout for an Engineering Manager to lead one of our Payments engineering teams — a group of 6–10 backend engineers building the payments infrastructure that powers Delivery Hero across 65 countries. This role sits at the intersection of people leadership, technical depth, and cross-functional collaboration. You will grow a high-performing team, maintain a strong technical bar, and be the connective tissue between engineering execution and broader product and business goals. Be part of building the financial backbone of Delivery Hero. You’ll develop products that empower millions of customers and merchants, from seamless payments to innovative financial solutions like wallets and credit. Your work will support our path to profitability by creating financial flexibility for users and enabling smooth transactions across our markets. Team Leadership: Own the day-to-day leadership of a team of 6–10 backend engineers — running 1:1s, performance cycles, hiring, and onboarding with genuine care for each person's growth.Technical Depth: Stay close to the technical work. Participate in design reviews, architectural discussions, and RFC feedback — not to make decisions for the team, but to raise the quality of thinking and ensure sound engineering choices.Delivery & Execution: Own team-level delivery — planning, prioritization, and removing blockers — while balancing engineering quality with product velocity.Stakeholder Management: Partner with product, data, and business stakeholders to shape the team's roadmap. Translate technical constraints into product tradeoffs and ensure engineering is represented clearly in cross-functional forums.Engineering Standards: Uphold and evolve the team's standards for code quality, testing, observability, and reliability. Foster a culture of ownership — "you build it, you run it."Hiring & Culture: Play an active role in recruiting, interviewing, and building a diverse and inclusive team culture where engineers feel empowered and psychologically safe.Incident & On-call Health: Maintain a healthy on-call culture — ensuring incidents are resolved effectively, blameless post-mortems happen, and systemic issues get addressed.
