About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer (Java) to join our dynamic Technology & Engineering team in Glasgow.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cloud-native platforms that underpin modern financial services.
As a key contributor, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable microservices-based applications primarily using Java 11+, Spring Boot, and AWS cloud infrastructure.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver enterprise-grade solutions for Tier 1 financial institutions, ensuring high performance, security, and reliability.
The position is based in our Glasgow office with a hybrid working model, and flexibility may be required to work in Edinburgh depending on client needs.
This role is ideal for professionals passionate about leveraging cloud technologies to innovate and improve banking systems.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in backend development with expertise in Java and cloud technologies.
Essential qualifications include:
Proven experience designing and implementing microservices architectures using Java 11+ and Spring Boot.Deep understanding of cloud computing, particularly AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, and CloudFormation.Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation, and deployment strategies.Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, including SQL and Kafka.Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, distributed systems, and secure software design principles.Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in agile environments.
Preferred qualifications include AWS certifications (Solutions Architect preferred), experience with event-driven architectures, and familiarity with testing frameworks like Cucumber and GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
A background in financial technology or delivering customer-facing banking applications is advantageous.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Backend Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
Designing and developing microservices-based applications using Java 11+ and Spring Boot to meet client requirements.Building and deploying scalable, secure cloud solutions on AWS infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance.Managing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines to facilitate continuous integration and delivery processes.Implementing comprehensive testing strategies, including unit, integration, and performance testing, to maintain high quality standards.Collaborating with product owners, developers, and stakeholders to contribute to system architecture, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.Ensuring adherence to security best practices and regulatory compliance within all development activities.Participating in agile ceremonies, providing technical guidance, and mentoring junior team members to foster a collaborative team environment.
