Summary ✨ AI‑Generated

A performance-focused software engineering role developing sophisticated trading infrastructure that processes enormous volumes of real-time data and interacts directly with global exchanges. You will work alongside engineers, traders, researchers, and quantitative specialists, with substantial ownership across the development lifecycle. Strong C++ and systems-performance expertise are central to the role.

Highlights

Work on highly performance-sensitive trading systems with direct exposure to global exchanges and real-time data. Collaborate closely with engineers, traders, researchers, and quantitative specialists while owning work across the development lifecycle.

Description

For my client, technology is fundamental to the business. Rather than relying on off-the-shelf solutions, they build their trading technology internally, enabling them to make millions of trading decisions every day and gain an edge through speed, efficiency and intelligent engineering. Based in Amsterdam, the C++ Execution teams develop some of the most performance-sensitive components of the technology platform. Their systems interact directly with global exchanges, handle enormous quantities of real-time market data, execute sophisticated trading strategies and incorporate specialised hardware when conventional software solutions cannot deliver the required performance. What will you do? As a Software Engineer, you will become part of a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, working closely with software engineers, traders, researchers and quantitative specialists across Amsterdam and international offices. You will have ownership throughout the development lifecycle — from understanding requirements and designing solutions through to implementation, testing, deployment and ongoing optimisation. The role combines high-performance C++ development with a strong focus on reliability, scalability and maintainability. Because the systems operate in a latency-sensitive environment, you will regularly need to assess the balance between performance and other engineering considerations such as throughput, simplicity, scalability, testability and long-term maintainability. With sophisticated automated testing and frequent production releases, quality is embedded throughout the development process. Key Responsibilities · Develop and enhance the technology responsible for connecting the business with exchanges worldwide, including market-data processing and order-entry systems where speed and reliability are critical. · Turn trading concepts and strategies into robust, production-ready execution software by working closely with traders and quantitative teams. · Collaborate with hardware specialists to incorporate FPGA technology and ultra-low-latency networking solutions into the wider trading infrastructure. · Investigate system performance through profiling, benchmarking and analysis, identifying opportunities to reduce latency and improve efficiency. · Take responsibility for software from initial concept through to production, while continuously expanding your technical knowledge alongside experienced engineers. What You'll Bring · At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience following graduation. · Strong experience developing in modern C++ (C++17 or later). · A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a comparable technical discipline. · A strong understanding of algorithms and data structures. · Genuine interest in understanding what happens beneath the code, including memory, CPU caches and networking. · The ability to adapt quickly and remain effective when working in an environment where requirements and priorities can change. · A proactive and creative approach to solving complex technical problems. · A strong sense of curiosity and a desire to keep learning. · An interest in financial markets is welcomed, but prior experience in trading or financial markets is not essential. By the way, this is a very cool company!
