Software Engineer (Embedded & Engine Control Systems) | Full Time
A high-growth Australian advanced engineering business is looking for a Software Engineer to design, develop, verify and release embedded and PC-based software for control systems used in demanding real-world applications.
If you enjoy building robust, testable embedded software and working closely with hardware, test, production and customers, this role will suit you.
What you’ll do
Design, develop, verify and release embedded + PC-based software in line with an established Product Development ProcessTranslate system/control requirements into software specifications, interfaces, acceptance criteria and technical documentationSupport software architecture planning and participate in code reviewsPlan and deliver engineering tasks against program milestones; identify and communicate technical/schedule risksImplement and improve testing approaches (unit, regression, HIL/Hardware-in-the-Loop)Investigate non-conformances and quality issues (root cause, containment, corrective actions)Support customers with integration of engine/vehicle control systems
What you’ll bring
Engineering degree (Software, Mechatronics, Control Systems or similar)3–8 years industry experience in embedded software developmentStrong C/C++ skillsExperience with 16-bit/32-bit microcontrollers and embedded debuggingFamiliarity with comms protocols: CAN/CAN bus, serial (UART), I2C, SPIVerification & validation experience (test planning, execution, results analysis)Version control and modern practices: Git/SVN, merge/pull requests, code diffs, reviewsStructured problem-solving approach (e.g., 8D / 7-step)
