About The Role We're seeking a Design Engineer to bridge the gap between design and engineering at GC AI. In this role, you'll help shape our design system implementation, architect front-end solutions, and ensure seamless user experiences across our platform. You'll be instrumental in creating intuitive interfaces that transform how legal professionals work, making sophisticated legal tasks feel simple and accessible. As a Design Engineer, you'll be crafting the visual systems and interactions that make sophisticated legal work feel simple and intuitive. Your work won't just look good - it will fundamentally change how legal teams operate, making their work faster, smarter, and more impactful. What You'll Do Architect and implement complex UI components and systems that balance aesthetics with technical performance.Lead the technical implementation and evolution of our design system across our marketing.Create prototypes to explore new interaction models and validate design concepts for legal workflows.Establish best practices for front-end development and component architecture.Mentor engineers on design principles and implementation techniques.Develop tools and processes to improve design-to-development workflow.Contribute to design reviews.Champion accessible, responsive, and performant user interfaces for legal teams.Build marketing landing pages. Impact You'll Have Define the visual language and interaction patterns for AI-native legal workflows so teams complete reviews faster and with more confidence.Turn ambiguous user pain points into elegant, production-ready interfaces that measurably reduce time-to-answer and error rates.Establish a reusable design system that speeds up iteration across product, growth, and integrations surfaces.Partner with AI + product engineering to make complex model behavior legible through clear affordances, states, and explanations. Required Experience 5+ years of experience in front-end development with a strong design sensibility.Expert-level knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, and React.Deep experience with modern front-end frameworks (React preferred).Strong understanding of design systems and component-based architecture.Experience implementing complex UI animations and interactions.Proven ability to translate design concepts into production-ready code.Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with both design and engineering teams.Experience with accessibility standards and best practices. Nice To Have Experience with Framer.Understanding of legal tech or B2B SaaS. GC AI is distributed, and engineering is our most distributed team. We hire engineers across the US and Canada. How We Work Together GC AI is a distributed company with team members across North America, and soon Europe. We believe that because our business is AI, human connection matters more, not less. We invest in bringing people together through our hub model: regular coworking sessions, customer dinners, team and company offsites. If you’re in a location without an office, expect up to 10% travel (and more for customer-facing roles). Team members in the San Francisco Bay Area and Provo, UT (within 50 miles of the office) work together on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. As we grow, we plan to establish permanent offices in more hub cities, and we will look to our team members to help build that in-person culture.
