Backed by leading investors and experiencing significant growth, they're investing heavily in their engineering organisation to scale the next generation of their platform As a Principal Backend Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across several engineering teams, driving architectural decisions, mentoring senior engineers, and helping define engineering best practices across the organisation What You'll Be Doing: Design and evolve highly scalable, cloud-native backend systemsDrive engineering standards across modern Java technologies, distributed systems and clean architectural principlesCollaborate with Product, Platform and Engineering leadership to shape technical strategyLead cross-functional initiatives and mentor senior engineers across multiple teams What We're Looking For: 8+ years building and operating large-scale backend systems in productionExperience working at Staff or Principal Engineer levelStrong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices and event-driven architecturesExperience designing distributed systems with a focus on scalability, resilience and performance Hands-on experience with AWS, Docker and Kubernetes Location: London, hybrid working (2–3 days per week in the office) Package: salary up to £160,000 plus bonus Principal Backend Engineer – London (Hybrid) | Up to £160k + Bonus
