Description

(Remote anywhere in Canada. Independent-contractor engagement — long-term, full-time-scale workload, contracted and paid in USD through Deel. See Role structure below.) Are you a senior engineer who is tired of shipping through four layers of reviews and waiting two quarters to see anything reach production? Would you rather your work go live the day you write it and see the impact that same day in revenue? If you are principled, self-disciplined, comfortable owning systems end to end, and looking for real autonomy, read on. Jewel ML is an AI-native e-commerce personalization platform powering iconic retailers such as Guess, Calvin Klein, Coach, American Eagle, West Elm, Pottery Barn, Banana Republic, and many more. We receive many billions of behavioral data points daily to train our AI models and serve hundreds of millions of users globally through our partner integrations. We are searching for a senior full-stack engineer to work alongside our remote engineering team and take end-to-end ownership across our cloud-native stack. You will work directly with leads, clients, and other functions across the org to ship your work. The right candidate is genuinely comfortable in both the backend and the frontend, has run production systems on a major cloud, is willing to learn frontier ML and AI concepts, and is the kind of engineer who balances velocity and quality in their day-to-day work in a high-performance environment. Minimum requirements: 6+ years building and running production software, including: Polyglot full-stack: deep TypeScript/Node and Python.JavaScript in the wild: vanilla-JS widgets injected into other companies' live storefronts — DOM, CSS cascade, bundling, browser APIs.Services at scale: Express and FastAPI on a sub-150 ms hot path; caching, batching, graceful degradation.GCP (or equivalent major cloud) end to end: Cloud Run, Batch, Composer, MIGs, Pub/Sub, Docker, CDN, Terraform, K8s, GitHub Actions — you own your own deploys.3+ years of hands-on experience with: Data: MongoDB (indexing, aggregation, right-sizing), plus Valkey/Redis and BigQuery.Pipelines, ML, AI: Recommenders, embeddings and vector search, applied LLM work, training, evals, and regression analysis.Client management: coordinate with enterprise clients, debug, launch, answer questions over email and Slack. Also required: Full professional English, spoken and written — you will run calls with US retail clients and write for them every day.At least 6 hours of daily overlap with US Eastern business hours (you set your own schedule around that). Bonus but not required: Go and mobile (Swift/Kotlin/Dart).Airflow ingestion of large, messy data.Google Tag Manager, GA4, Adobe Analytics.Spanish and/or Portuguese. What you'll do: Build and run production services serving recommendation traffic to many millions of shoppers.Maintain and improve the services and data pipelines.Integrate our platform into client storefronts.Support the technical relationship with clients, including the calls where results get discussed or bugs/improvements are requested.Be creative and take initiative: if part of the platform can be better, design the change, review it with the team, and ship it. We would much rather you propose, build, and present something than wait to be asked to do it.Improve personal and team productivity week-over-week by sourcing, testing, using, and piloting the latest AI and productivity tools in the space. How we work: Small teams, fully remote, very few meetings. You can ship to production in your first week.AI tooling is encouraged: you have Claude, Codex, Gemini, Grok, and other tools wired into every repository, and you choose how you use them. We're always looking for productivity-boosting tooling to add to our roster. No procurement queue, no adoption targets, and no silly token-counting dashboards. Writing code is cheap now; judgment, quality, and speed are what count. You deliver high-quality work, however you do it best. Role structure: This is an independent-contractor engagement, not employment. Jewel ML is a US company and engages its team outside the United States as independent contractors, so this engagement does not include employment or benefits in Canada; — you are responsible for your own taxes, CPP, insurance and time off.We intend this to be a long-term engagement with a full-time-scale workload, not a short project. You need to be located in Canada, legally entitled to work in Canada, and able to contract as a sole proprietor or through your own corporation. How the process runs: A few screening questions here, then a technical assessment and a coding exercise, followed by video interviews in English with your camera on. You may be asked to interview in person. Once you've cleared the technical rounds, you'll have a conversation with the team, and if both sides are on board, we will send you a contract. We look forward to hearing from you! (Jewel ML is an equal opportunity company. If you need an accommodation at any stage of this process, please tell us and we will arrange it.)
