Software Engineers have experience overseeing software development projects, writing optimised code, and provide technical leadership to a team of software engineers.
They are responsible for the quality and functionality of the software produced by their team.
The APS6 Engineer (Labour Hire) is accountable under broad direction to undertake very complex work that delivers quality outcomes across the functions of the NDIA.
Key duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
Implementing new systems, applications, and integrations, adhering to industry best practices and NDIA architectural principles.Design and implementation of software and CI/CD pipelines to solve complex problems including writing Infrastructure as Code with Terraform and building containerised applications for Kubernetes.Play a pivotal role in our project team, using an agile development framework.Documenting all design and development work.Actively participate in code reviews – both as the reviewer and the reviewee to ensure coding quality and standards are maintained.Ensuring that any software produced meets the agency's security requirements and standards.Ensuring that any software produced meets accessibility expectations.Collaborating with Business Analysts, Project Leads, and other IT teams to resolve issues to ensure solutions are viable and fit for purpose.Collaborate closely with the Quality Assurance team to ensure effective test coverage early in the development cycle utilising a shift-left approachEnsuring that solutions are pragmatic, value for money, and deliver on their intended purpose.Essential criteria
Experience building complex APIs in a variety of languages, such as Golang and JavaScript/TypeScript.
Using architectural patterns like REST and GraphQLStrong familiarity with Cloud infrastructure in AWS, including writing Infrastructure as Code, ideally using TerraformBuilding containerised applications for deployment into Kubernetes using Docker and HelmDemonstrated ability in writing accessible applications using React and TypeScript, including developing reusable components, managing application state, integrating APIs, and troubleshooting/debugging React applications.Expertise using DevOps practices, including creating CI/CD pipelines with GitHub/GitLab and tooling such as Artifactory and HashiCorp VaultFamiliarity with accessibility standards for web, such as WCAG 2.2ADesirable criteria
Mobile app development experience, using React Native or similar frameworksDatabase deployment and administration (Postgres and MySQL)Ability to work across all stages of the SDLC, including creating technical designs, developing and deploying code, performing code reviews, and the long-term maintenance of codeAbility to write automated testing write unit, component, integration and functional tests.
Must be able to work closely with QA teams to facilitate integration and end-to-end testing of complex systems
