About the Opportunity
The Senior Data Engineer joins a staff-augmentation team supporting a fast-moving SaaS data platform with a significant post-acquisition data backlog.
This role combines advanced data engineering expertise with strong ownership and independent decision-making to design and deliver scalable, reliable data solutions.
Working primarily with Snowflake, dbt, and Apache Airflow, the engineer will build modern data pipelines and models while aligning technical work with broader business objectives.
The position offers high visibility, with performance during the initial 60 days influencing potential long-term placement.
Responsibilities
• Manage complex technical projects from planning through delivery with minimal supervision.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable ELT pipelines using dbt and Snowflake, including performance tuning and optimization.
• Develop and maintain reliable orchestration workflows using Apache Airflow.
• Apply dimensional modeling, data warehousing, and analytics engineering best practices to support downstream reporting and analytics.
• Prepare and model data for modern BI platforms, primarily Sigma, with some Tableau exposure for customer-facing reporting.
• Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and modernization across the data platform.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
• Proactively identify data quality, performance, scalability, and reliability risks and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Contribute to the data platform’s AI and machine learning capabilities roadmap.
• Create and maintain clear technical documentation for pipelines, models, workflows, and platform processes.
Requirements
• Minimum 7 years of professional data engineering experience, including a proven ability to independently manage complex technical projects.
• Strong proficiency with Snowflake, including performance tuning and advanced platform capabilities.
• Extensive experience using dbt to build and maintain production ELT pipelines.
• Experience with Apache Airflow or comparable data orchestration tools.
• Strong Python programming skills.
• Solid understanding of dimensional modeling, data warehousing, and analytics engineering best practices.
• Familiarity with BI tools such as Sigma, Tableau, or Power BI.
• Proven ability to design scalable, maintainable, reliable, and well-documented data pipelines and models.
• Experience mentoring junior or less experienced engineers and conducting effective code reviews.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Snowflake Cortex and/or Snowflake AI certification.
• Hands-on experience with Sigma BI.
• Experience with Tableau, particularly embedded or customer-facing reporting.
• Experience working in post-acquisition, carve-out, or complex data migration environments.
