Description

Burshteyn Polin LLP is a technology-forward litigation boutique focused on AI, crypto, cybersecurity, complex business disputes, and class and mass actions. We are technical lawyers who code and build software to improve how legal work is investigated, developed, verified, and presented. The firm is growing, and its software platform is scaling with it. We are adding an engineer to our existing contract engineering team. The new engineer will work alongside our lawyers and the contract engineers who have helped make the platform robust. Our lawyers function as product managers who can code, and our engineers bring the technical depth needed to build and operate reliable systems at scale. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who can understand a complex working platform, make sound architectural decisions, and improve it without slowing product development. What you will do Improve the architecture, performance, reliability, security, and maintainability of a mixed Python, JavaScript/Node.js, PowerShell, and web-application codebase.Make AI and automation workflows more deterministic through clear schemas, reliable state management, idempotency, concurrency controls, bounded retries, and strong error handling.Maintain and scale our existing Git-based development lifecycle and CI/CD pipeline, and strengthen automated testing, staging, deployment, monitoring, and rollback systems.Develop, debug, and operate software across Windows, macOS, Linux, and cloud environments.Maintain and improve AWS infrastructure, secrets and key management, IAM, logging, backups, and disaster recovery, together with services such as Netlify and Supabase.Improve multi-model coding and agent harnesses that use Claude Code, OpenAI GPT and Codex, Grok, Fireworks AI, and other model and inference providers.Improve observability, model routing, evaluations, caching, and token, cost, and latency controls.Work directly with our lawyers and the existing contract engineering team to document systems and prioritize improvements. What we are looking for Strong platform, backend, infrastructure, DevOps, or site-reliability engineering experience.Strong Python and JavaScript/TypeScript/Node.js skills are required, along with the ability to work effectively in a mixed codebase that includes PowerShell.Hands-on AWS experience is required, including cloud operations, IAM, secrets management, security, and infrastructure automation.Experience developing and troubleshooting across Windows, macOS, and Linux.Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, automated tests, reproducible environments, and safe deployment and rollback systems.Practical experience with LLM or agent systems, including tool calling, structured outputs, context and token management, evaluations, caching, rate limits, retries, and provider APIs.Strong debugging and security judgment across APIs, asynchronous and concurrent processes, browser or desktop automation, dependencies, and confidential data.Clear communication, ownership, and comfort treating lawyers as technical product partners. Engagement This is a remote hourly contract engagement expected to require approximately 10-20 hours per week. Compensation is $50-$100 per hour, depending on seniority, experience, and scope.
