Description

About The Role This is a core infrastructure role at a pre-seed energy tech startup building the foundational systems that power dynamic electricity plans — including a modular billing engine, low-level energy-market communication protocols, and a full accounting ledger. You'll be a key contributor shaping scalable, reliable backend architecture at an early and critical stage of the company's growth. What You'll Do Design systems that tame complexity and make hard problems tractable at scale. Build and scale core backend services that underpin dynamic electricity plans and billing infrastructure. Move fast with a bias for action, shipping meaningful work in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment. Set and uphold a high technical bar across the codebase and team. What We're Looking For 3–10+ years of backend engineering experience with strong proficiency in TypeScript (Node.js) and asynchronous programming. Solid experience with PostgreSQL and an ORM (experience with Drizzle is a plus). Familiarity with Next.js, including API routes or server components for backend services. Understanding of distributed systems concepts and how to design scalable, maintainable services. Hands-on experience integrating Stripe payments and billing flows. Strong CS fundamentals — formal degree or equivalent practical experience. Excellent written and verbal communication, a strong sense of ownership, and comfort operating in ambiguity. Compensation & Benefits Salary range: €80,000 – €120,000 per year. Visa sponsorship is available. Location On-site, 5 days per week in Berlin, Germany. Remote work is not available for this role.
