We’re looking to expand our team across the board. York Space Systems is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Software Engineering lntern. This individual will be responsible for developing and testing new features and bugfixes for a full-stack application used for executing and managing Space Vehicle testing in a streamlined and safe way. The successful candidate takes part in software engineering activities associated with the delivery of this application to internal customers that will utilize the product. This assignment includes implementing designed features into an existing full-stack application to add capabilities that will aid test execution engineers in areas such as making the frontend more efficient and user-friendly and backend optimizations to increase product efficiency. The ideal candidate for this role is a talented coder with a passion for working with software and hardware. Responsibilities Support test-like-you-fly, test driven development for spacecraft flight software, ground software, and space vehicle integrationPerform troubleshooting and debugging of SIT tools and infrastructureParticipate in an agile scrum team focused on delivering embedded software for space applications.Collaborate with team members, management, and customers to ensure projects are completed to standard.Identify risks and form contingency plans as soon as possible.Software Engineer Intern - Full Stack DevelopmentCommunicate with the team about challenges, failures, and successes.Influence technical design and code reviews to ensure quality of deliverables.Work with systems engineers and peers to understand and expand requirements based on high-level specifications.Develop software architectures and designs that meet requirements.Develop interfaces and processes running on embedded Linux.Propose, review, and analyze potential implementation approaches based on cost, complexity, and schedule.Develop the associated code following strict project coding guidelines and process requirements.Develop, execute, and analyze unit tests verifying satisfaction of requirements, proper implementation of interfaces, and code coverage.Work with other subsystems to ensure proper integration of subsystem code into the functional design.Participate in development of Software-in-the-loop (SITL) and Hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) systems.Perform or provide oversight of SITL and HITL integration and testing. Qualifications 0-2 years of experience in software engineering.Bachelor’s degree or greater in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or related fieldProven experience with Python developmentExperience with full-stack web development, including backend development support for APIs and databasesUnderstanding and experience with API development & usageFrontend development with React or equivalentBackend development with FastAPI or equivalentExperience with distributed task managementExperience with database management MongoDBExperience with Git and modern day Agile software development practices & toolsExperience developing in a Linux environmentSome experience with bash scriptingFamiliar with Docker, Docker Compose, & containerizationKnowledge of GitLab & CI/CD pipelines and using them for developmentFamiliar with writing test documentation, such as test plans, procedures, and reports.Can proactively identify problems and communicate them clearly to leadership and/or more senior engineersProficient at technical documentationAbility to obtain a Security Clearance (Secret or above) Desired Qualifications Self-starter with the ability to pick up new concepts quicklyExperience with databases (SQL, Influx, Mongo, Redis)Ability to communicate complex topics to a non-technical audienceExperience in end-to-end system level automated testingExperience with Software in the loop test systemsExperience with Hardware in the loop test systemsExperience in modeling, analysis and validation of satellite subsystemsExperience with embedded systems, networking, and pub/sub message middlewareExperience with build system tools such as CMake, SWIG, and package managementExperience testing hardware systems, preferably for space flight Benefits In addition to compensation, York Space Systems is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance along with PTO and a 401K.
