About Pivotal
Pivotal is on a mission to be UK's Trusted Adviser.
Backed by Pollen Street Capital, we have built a family of specialist advice firms through an ambitious and continuing acquisition programme.
Now we are building the technology that unites them: one AI-first tech stack - the Pulse Platform, with a one data layer, and an AI-first client experience for one of the largest advice markets in the country.
We're a people-first business where colleagues excel, grow and feel genuinely valued.
Our entrepreneurial partners lead award-winning teams delivering exceptional advice with speed, precision and care.
We're obsessed with the client experience, naturally curious, and never stop striving for better.
About the role
Our ambition is simple: to build the most advanced AI-powered system in the UK mortgage intermediary market.
We are looking for exceptional people to help us do it.
Pivotal is a UK mortgage and protection advice group, building a shared technology platform across its firms.
Pulse is that platform: it makes every mortgage case easier to process.
At its heart is Jarvis, an AI assistant that draws on lender criteria, client and property information, firm rules, and years of historic case data to help advisers know exactly what to do next - and, in time, to process cases itself.
You will be an integral product engineer on the Pulse CRM, working alongside our principal engineer with your hands on the whole platform: a modern Django 6 backend (DRF, Celery, PostgreSQL) and a React 19 / TypeScript frontend.
This is a high-ownership seat in a small senior team.
We work AI-first: engineers here run AI agents day to day and direct them, rather than hand-writing every line of code.
What you'll do
Ship features end to end, from data model to UI, across credit checks, affordability, case management and certificates.Own product areas outright: you take responsibility for how they work, how they perform, and how they evolve.Be the second reviewer on every change, sharing ownership of the codebase so no part of the platform depends on one person.Raise the bar as you go: tests with the changes you ship, honest code review, and patterns the next engineer can follow.Build the product surface for Jarvis with our AI and context engineers, putting AI capability into real adviser workflows.Help scale the platform as we grow towards 1,400 advisers: performance, reliability, and the unglamorous fixes that keep a real system fast.
How success is measured
Features ship regularly, work first time, and hold up in front of advisers.Every merge has had a real second pair of eyes, and the codebase has no single-person dependencies. The platform gets faster and more reliable as usage grows, not slower.
How this role fits in
You and the principal engineer own the Pulse CRM application code and the unit tests that ship with it.
Our test automation engineer owns the harnesses and CI gates.
Our platform engineer owns the infrastructure it runs on.
The Head of Innovations owns the product roadmap.
What you'll need
Essential:
Strong commercial Python and Django experience, building and running production web applications.Solid modern React and TypeScript.Full-stack range: relational data modelling, REST APIs, background jobs, and a working understanding of how systems behave in production.Experience with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex or similar) as a core part of your workflow, and you can show where they make you faster and where you still don't trust them.A quality mindset: you write tests, review carefully, and care about maintainable code as much as shipping. You document exceptionally well - clear, complete and organised, so others can navigate your work.
Desirable:
Experience in FCA-regulated or financial services environments.Celery or similar task-queue experience; Kubernetes or AWS exposure.Experience building LLM-powered features.
