Artificial Intelligence Engineer - Generative AI

AI Engineer – Generative AI / LLMs £50,000–£65,000 Warrington Hybrid – 3 days onsite My client is looking for an AI Engineer to join a growing technology team in Warrington. This is primarily an engineering role rather than a traditional Data Science position. You'll be designing and building applications and services that make practical use of Generative AI, taking ideas from early prototypes through to reliable, production-ready solutions. It's a great opportunity for an engineer who has already gained hands-on commercial experience with LLMs and Generative AI and now wants to work on larger-scale applications where the technology is being used to solve genuine business problems. The Role You'll work on a range of AI-focused engineering projects, including: Building applications and services powered by LLMs and Generative AIDeveloping RAG and retrieval-based applicationsBuilding AI agents and intelligent automationIntegrating AI capabilities into existing applications, APIs and business systemsWorking with structured and unstructured dataTaking AI applications from prototype through to productionDeveloping and deploying solutions within AzureImproving the performance, reliability and scalability of existing AI applicationsWorking with software engineers and stakeholders to identify where AI can add genuine valueExploring emerging AI technologies and assessing where they can be practically appliedYou'll have the opportunity to contribute to technical decisions and help shape how AI is used across the wider organisation. About You I'm interested in speaking with AI Engineers or Software Engineers who have developed strong practical experience with modern AI technologies. You'll ideally have experience across several of the following: Generative AI / LLM application developmentRAGC#/.NET or PythonVector databases / vector searchAI agents or agentic workflowsAzureAzure AI / Microsoft AI toolingAPIs and systems integrationCloud-based application developmentCI/CD and modern software engineering practices Experience with technologies such as Microsoft AI Foundry, Azure Machine Learning or similar AI platforms would be particularly useful, but isn't essential. The key thing I'm looking for is someone who can demonstrate that they have actually built AI-powered software, rather than simply experimented with AI tools or completed personal projects. You'll need good software engineering fundamentals and an understanding of what it takes to move an AI application into a reliable production environment.
