Your Role And Responsibilities About the Role: Backend engineers at Confluent work on a set of diverse and technically challenging problems, including building cloud frameworks and services that power components of the Confluent Cloud platform. You will have the opportunity to work with modern cloud-native technologies and contribute to services supporting Confluent Cloud, including Connect, Apache Flink, Kafka and more. As a software engineer, you will work closely with experienced engineers to design, develop, test and deploy reliable backend services. You will learn and apply best practices in cloud-native development, distributed systems, microservices and containerized environments while contributing to the continuous improvement of the platform. What You Will Do Develop and maintain backend services that deliver value to Confluent Cloud customersWork with senior engineers on designing and implementing scalable, reliable and maintainable servicesTroubleshoot and debug issues across a technical stack including microservices, containers and cloud infrastructureWrite clean, well-tested and maintainable code following software engineering best practicesContribute to code reviews, technical discussions and documentationSupport the deployment, monitoring and operation of production servicesCollaborate with engineers across different teams to deliver projects and resolve technical challengesLearn and contribute to improvements in service reliability, performance and operational processes Preferred Education Master's Degree Required Technical And Professional Expertise Experience developing backend software in a production or professional environmentGood programming skills in at least one major programming language, such as Java, Go, C/C++, Python, or similarUnderstanding of software engineering fundamentals, including testing, code reviews, debugging and documentationFamiliarity with REST APIs, microservices and cloud-native application developmentAbility to troubleshoot technical issues and work effectively with other engineersStrong communication and collaboration skillsWillingness to learn new technologies and work in a technically challenging cloud environment Preferred Technical And Professional Experience Experience working with AWS, Azure or Google CloudFamiliarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm or similar cloud-native technologiesExperience with distributed systems, messaging systems or event-driven architecturesExperience working with production applications and monitoring/observability toolsExposure to performance, scalability, reliability or availability considerationsExperience with Kafka or other streaming technologies is a plus
