Summary
✨ AI‑Generated
An ambitious tech innovator is hiring a Senior Backend Software Engineer specializing in generative AI. Unlike typical roles that merely integrate APIs, this position dives deep into building reliable backend systems for operating large language models and agentic workflows at scale. You’ll tackle production issues around LLM-powered applications, retrieval mechanisms, and distributed AI infrastructure. The ideal candidate has shipped LLM-based features to production, designed scalable architectures, and understands the nuances of deploying AI in real-world environments. Based in Seattle, this is an on-site role offering a competitive compensation package.
Highlights
Work directly on building production-grade backend infrastructure for cutting-edge generative AI platforms. Tackle engineering challenges at scale involving LLMs, agentic systems, and retrieval-augmented generation. Competitive salary with opportunities to shape core AI architecture.
Description
Senior Backend Software Engineer | Generative AI
Seattle | On-Site | $180,000 - $220,000
There are plenty of backend roles where “AI” means integrating an API.
This isn’t one of them.
They’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who has already built production software around LLMs and Generative AI, and wants to work on the engineering problems that appear when those systems need to operate reliably at scale.
You’ll be building backend services that sit at the heart of their AI platform.
That means working on problems around LLM-powered applications, agentic systems, RAG and retrieval, distributed systems and production-scale AI infrastructure.
This is primarily a software engineering role.
They need someone who can design and build robust backend systems, not an ML researcher or an infrastructure engineer who happens to support AI workloads.
What they’re looking for
You’ll need strong evidence of:
Building complex backend or distributed systems in productionHands-on development of Generative AI or LLM-based productsExperience with areas such as RAG, agents, retrieval, LLM orchestration or model APIsStrong software engineering fundamentals and system design abilityTaking technically difficult systems from design through to production
Experience from a high-scale technology business, AI company or technically demanding start-up would be particularly relevant.
Probably not the right role if...
Your AI experience is mainly academic, experimental or personal projects.
Likewise, if you’ve supported GPU, cloud or ML infrastructure but haven’t actually built the software layer around Generative AI, this is unlikely to be the right fit.
They’re deliberately keeping the bar narrow.
What’s on offer
