About The Role We are seeking a talented and experienced Backend Developer / AI Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining the backend infrastructure that powers our AI platform, ai-gelb. Your work will directly impact the development of enterprise AI solutions that support organizations with societal commitments. You will design, implement, and optimize backend services that enable intelligent search, knowledge retrieval, and seamless integration of various AI models and providers. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of backend development and artificial intelligence, contributing to meaningful projects that serve the public good. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess several years of professional experience in backend development, with a strong command of modern, type-safe programming languages such as Go, Rust, Java, or C#. You should have a solid understanding of API design, real-time and streaming interfaces, and concurrent programming techniques to ensure high performance and reliability. Experience with semantic search, AI-driven retrieval, and managing large datasets is essential. Familiarity with integrating AI and LLM services, containerization technologies, Linux environments, version control, and CI/CD pipelines is required. A good grasp of relational and search/vector databases, along with a strong sense of data privacy, security, and tenant separation, is important. Excellent communication skills in German are necessary for effective collaboration within our team and with our clients. Responsibilities Develop and operate backend services supporting our AI assistants, ensuring reliable access to knowledge bases for various client projects.Enhance and maintain search functionalities that deliver accurate and relevant content in response to user queries.Ensure that large volumes of data remain quickly searchable, overseeing the architecture, operation, and quality of search systems.Integrate language models (LLMs) and prepare data inputs to optimize their performance.Work with multiple AI providers and models, prioritizing data privacy and compliance with GDPR and European data standards.Guarantee fast and dependable responses, even during high request volumes, maintaining system stability and scalability.Maintain strict data separation for different clients and manage access controls effectively.Contribute to architectural decisions and collaborate closely with frontend, data, and AI teams to develop cohesive solutions.
