This role drives the full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, integrating AI/ML capabilities and ensuring high availability and fault tolerance. The position requires strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to align engineering efforts with business objectives. The engineer applies sound judgment in architectural decisions, fosters continuous improvement, and champions innovation to support Walmart’s evolving technology landscape and long-term platform vision. About the team: The team advances AI Shopping by integrating with external partners to enhance experiences across Web, iOS, and Android platforms. Utilizing generative AI, they deliver personalized, context-aware support through scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems and real-time mobile architectures. Collaboration with AI/ML, backend, and product teams ensures secure, high-performance solutions. The group emphasizes technical leadership, innovation, and operational excellence while fostering mentorship and continuous improvement. Together, they develop cloud-native platforms designed to manage large-scale traffic and data, ensuring reliability, extensibility, and alignment with enterprise standards. What you'll do: Lead platform engineering efforts to deliver scalable, cloud-native infrastructure and reusable tooling aligned with strategic roadmaps. Drive full software development lifecycle management, including design, testing, deployment, and maintenance across multiple teams. Architect and implement AI/ML-enhanced applications supporting high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, promoting best practices and architectural standardization. Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into clear technical requirements and measurable success metrics. Ensure technical ownership by delivering quality solutions and resolving issues proactively. Foster continuous improvement through innovation, knowledge sharing, and adoption of emerging technologies. What you'll bring: Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable infrastructure and reusable tooling aligned with strategic roadmaps. Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture and distributed system design ensuring high availability and fault tolerance. Strong technical skills in software development lifecycle management, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and incident response. Proficiency in AI/ML integration and building intelligent software systems using languages such as Python, Java, and C++. Ability to apply model-driven design and leverage modern development tools to enhance velocity and quality. Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions across teams.
