Description
About Coffee Meets BagelCoffee Meets Bagel is a women-founded company with a mission to give everyone a chance at love.
We build products that help people form meaningful connections and work closely across Engineering, Product, Design, and Data to solve meaningful customer and business problems.
We are modernizing both our product and engineering organization, investing in next-generation recommendation and GenAI capabilities and using AI-first development practices across the software lifecycle.
The RoleWe are looking for a Senior or Staff Infrastructure Engineer to be the primary owner of the infrastructure that keeps Coffee Meets Bagel reliable, scalable, secure, and cost-efficient.
You will have significant autonomy across cloud infrastructure, reliability, deployment, observability, developer productivity, data infrastructure, security, and infrastructure cost management.
You will work closely with backend engineers, who also contribute to areas such as deployment, infrastructure as code, Kubernetes, and production operations.
This role starts with deep infrastructure ownership but is intentionally broader over time.
We encourage infrastructure engineers to expand into backend services and product systems as their interests and impact grow.
Level will be calibrated based on technical depth, scope, and demonstrated leadership.
What You'll DoOwn and evolve CMB's AWS infrastructure, including reliability, scalability, security, performance, and cost efficiency.Build and improve infrastructure as code, Kubernetes environments, deployment automation, CI/CD, and developer workflows that help engineers ship safely and efficiently.Strengthen observability, alerting, incident response, capacity planning, failure recovery, and production readiness while reducing operational toil.Operate and modernize shared data infrastructure, including production databases, caches, search systems, backups, replication, migrations, and performance tuning.Own infrastructure cost visibility and optimization, including AWS and engineering-tooling spend; partner with business stakeholders on budgeting, forecasting, and infrastructure investment planning.Own infrastructure security priorities in partnership with a senior external security advisor, translating risks and recommendations into actionable work and driving improvements across cloud infrastructure and engineering systems.Partner with backend engineers on system architecture, reliability, operational simplicity, and infrastructure improvements, and contribute to backend services when that is the best way to solve a technical or product problem.Use AI-assisted development across infrastructure design, implementation, automation, testing, debugging, incident investigation, review, and documentation while maintaining human accountability for security, reliability, correctness, and production outcomes.
What We're Looking ForStrong hands-on experience owning and operating production cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS, including Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, deployment, and automation.Strong fundamentals in Linux, networking, distributed systems, cloud security, reliability, and production operations.Experience with CI/CD, observability, incident response, capacity planning, and designing systems for failure and recovery.Experience operating production databases and shared data infrastructure, including performance, availability, backup, and migration concerns.Strong programming skills in Python, Go, or another language, with a preference for durable automation over manual operations and an interest in contributing to backend systems.Experience managing cloud and infrastructure costs.Experience with cloud security, IAM, vulnerability management, security reviews, and working closely with security specialists.Ability to independently own an infrastructure domain, prioritize investments, communicate clearly with engineering and business stakeholders, and collaborate effectively with backend engineers and specialized external experts.
Nice to HaveBackend application or API development experience.
Our Technology StackOur environment includes AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, PostgreSQL/RDS, Redis, Elasticsearch, Python, Go, CI/CD, automated testing, and observability tooling.
How We WorkAt CMB, infrastructure is an engineering function, not just an operations function.
We automate repetitive work, design systems for failure and recovery, and partner closely with product engineers to make reliability, security, cost efficiency, and developer velocity part of the architecture.
We operate with an AI-first engineering culture, using AI throughout design, implementation, review, testing, debugging, incident investigation, and documentation while keeping engineers accountable for security, correctness, reliability, and production outcomes.
We also value depth plus breadth.
You may join with infrastructure as your strongest area, but we encourage engineers to expand into backend and broader product systems as their skills and impact grow.
