Description

ABOUT DEEPFORM DeepForm Ltd is transforming sheet metal manufacturing with our patented fold-shear pressing process, enabling up to 90% material utilisation and significantly reducing waste, cost and embodied CO2 emissions in the high-volume manufacturing of sheet metal components — without disrupting our customers' existing production lines. We're a University of Cambridge spin-out, founded in 2022. Having secured external investment and formed a strategic alliance with a well-known automotive manufacturer, we're now delivering our first large-scale project with that partner, and the team has grown accordingly. The technology is proven and now in production with our partner — this is a pivotal stage to join us, with real scope to shape how we scale it, on our mission to reduce waste and embodied emissions in the manufacturing sector. THE ROLE As our Software Engineer, you'll work across our product suite: manipulating and processing component geometries, integrating optimisation algorithms built by the wider engineering team, and building the user interfaces our engineers and customers rely on day to day. You'll work closely with our Optimisation Engineer and wider engineering team to make sure our software keeps pace as we take on new customers and new products. Key responsibilities: - Geometry manipulation and processing tooling (~25% of your time): building and maintaining tools to process, manipulate and visualise component geometries used across our design and simulation pipeline - Supporting optimisation workflows (~25%): integrating and supporting optimisation algorithms developed by the engineering team into production-ready software - User interface development (~30%): designing and building user interfaces for the internal and customer-facing tools our engineers and clients use day to day - Cross-product workflow automation (~20%): linking and automating workflows across DeepForm's growing product suite WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Essential: - A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field — or equivalent experience - Solid grounding in at least one modern programming language (e.g. Python or C++) and good engineering practice — version control, testing, code review - Comfortable working in a fast-growing team with evolving processes - Some experience building user interfaces, or a genuine willingness to learn — you'll be building tools our engineers and customers use directly - Comfortable picking up new technical domains — geometry processing, optimisation — on the job; you ask good questions and learn fast - Clear communicator who manages their own time and priorities well, and works well in a small, fast-growing team Desirable: - Any exposure to computational geometry, CAD/CAM tooling or optimisation methods - Experience working with agentic AI coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor) SALARY AND BENEFITS - Salary: £40,000–£60,000 per year, dependent on experience - Share option scheme - Pension scheme - 25 days' annual leave, excluding bank holidays - Full time, office-based with some flexibility for hybrid working Location: Allia Future Business Centre, King's Hedges Road, Cambridge, CB4 2HY, United Kingdom Reports to: Head of Software Start date: As soon as possible OUR HIRING PROCESS 1.
