The Opportunity The Kargo Workflow Platform powers our entire AdTech engine, and we're modernizing it. As a Senior Engineer on the team, you'll design and build distributed services that are reliable, observable, and built to last — owning projects end-to-end and partnering across engineering, product, and data. We're looking for a self-starter who finds problems, frames them, and fixes them, and who makes the engineers around them better in the process. The Daily To-Do Design and build distributed services for the Workflow Platform modernization, thinking about failure modes, retry logic, and observability from the startOwn significant projects end-to-end — from design through deployment and post-launch optimization — with minimal hand-holdingImprove platform health through latency reductions, fault tolerance, and observability enhancements with measurable outcomesUse AI-assisted development tools fluently to ship faster, and actively share what's working with teammatesRaise the quality bar through code reviews and design discussions, contributing well-reasoned opinionsPartner with Product, Data, and cross-functional stakeholders, translating fluently between technical and non-technicalMentor less experienced engineers through pairing, documentation, and patient, constructive guidance Qualifications 5–8 years of software engineering experience, with meaningful time in distributed or high-scale backend systemsStrong proficiency in at least one modern, high-performance language; TypeScript and/or Golang strongly preferredSolid understanding of distributed systems concepts: consistency, availability, fault tolerance, event-driven architecture, and service orchestrationExperience building and maintaining microservices in production at meaningful scale; async messaging (Kafka, Pub/Sub) or workflow engines a strong plusComfortable with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and debugging production issues using monitoring and distributed tracingActive user of AI coding tools (Cursor, Copilot, or equivalent) with real, demonstrated productivity gainsB.S. or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience; AdTech, programmatic, or real-time systems experience a plus In accordance with applicable federal, state, and local pay transparency laws, the anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for variable compensation — either the Kargo Sales Incentive Plan (sales roles) or an annual discretionary bonus (all other roles). Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, education, and skills.
