Build backend technology that powers the world of sports For an international tech scale-up, we are looking for a PHP Developer to join a growing engineering team. The company operates a high-volume data platform used by businesses across the sports, media and technology industries. Behind the scenes, large amounts of real-time data are processed, structured and made available through APIs to customers around the world. This is not a role where you will simply build another website in Laravel. You will work on the core backend of a data-heavy platform, where scalability, performance, clean architecture and reliable APIs actually matter. What will you work on? As a Backend Developer, you will help further develop and scale the platform and its APIs. Your work will include: Building and improving backend functionality in PHPDeveloping and maintaining scalable APIsProcessing and structuring large amounts of dataImproving application performance and reliabilityWriting clean, maintainable and well-structured codeThinking about architecture and technical improvementsReviewing code and collaborating closely with other engineersHelping improve engineering standards and development processes The main backend stack is built around PHP and Laravel, but strong knowledge of object-oriented programming and core PHP principles is particularly important. What are we looking for? Ideally, you have: 3+ years of professional backend development experienceStrong experience with PHPExperience with Laravel or a comparable PHP frameworkA solid understanding of object-oriented programmingExperience building or maintaining APIsAn understanding of scalable and maintainable backend architectureAn interest in performance, data processing and platform engineeringThe ability to work independently while enjoying collaboration with other engineers Experience working on SaaS platforms, high-traffic applications or data-intensive systems is a strong plus.
