Description

Location: Remote (available 9am-2pm EST, Monday to Friday) Posting type: Full-time Contractor Compensation (US/Canada): ~$7,300 – $8,500 USD monthly retainer (or local currency equivalent) Use of AI: We do not use AI in the screening and interviewing process. A member of our team reads your resume and meets with you. The Reality of This Role Most Systems Engineer roles are about keeping the lights on. At WagerTech, you are the one building the grid while the city is already running at full speed. Today, our data chain works, but it’s held together by individual experts who each own a piece of the puzzle. We need one person who understands the whole picture, someone who knows exactly what breaks downstream when a change happens upstream. You aren't here to manage a team or build front-end dashboards; you are the technical owner of the data pipeline, the integrations, and the internal toolset that makes this business move. It’s a hands-on, senior-level builder role where success means moving from manual intervention to a system that handles in a minute what used to take a person a full day. We move fast, and we need someone who can build the infrastructure to keep up. What Your Day Actually Looks Like Morning: You’re diving into the codebase, Python services, or PostgreSQL schema to refine how data flows from our properties into the operational source of truth. Lunch: You’re taking a break on your own terms, as long as you’re around for our core collaboration hours of 9 AM to 2 PM EST, you own your schedule. Afternoon: You’re automating a high-cost manual process or building a custom Salesforce integration that declarative tools couldn't handle. You’re likely using AI assistants to speed up your workflow, but applying your own senior judgment to ensure the output is production-ready. You won't be "managing a queue." You’re owning a system. You decide how the architecture evolves to ensure that when the business asks "where did this number come from," the answer is clear, documented, and trusted. You’re Going to Do Well If... You Love a Startup: You thrive in the "build" phase. You don't wait for a manual to be handed to you, you’re the one who enjoys digging in, figuring it out, and documenting it for the first time. You Have "Architect Eyes": You don't just fix a bug; you look at the data contract between systems and ensure the entire pipeline is documented, observable, and resilient. You’re a Full-Stack Builder: While your heart is in the backend (Python, Django, AWS), you have enough JavaScript and React fluency to build the interfaces your own services need to be useful. You Are a Salesforce Strategy Partner: You view Salesforce not just as a CRM, but as the operational source of truth. You’re ready to own the object architecture, flows, and eventually the Apex logic that keeps the business running. You Love Automation: If you see a manual hand-off or a data re-entry point, it bothers you. You won’t stop until it’s a monitored, documented, and automated process. You Use AI as a Force Multiplier: You’re already using AI agents and coding assistants to stay fast, but you have the engineering hygiene to know that generated code is just a draft until you’ve verified and tested it. The Trade-Off This is a full-time contractor role in a high-growth environment. We move quickly, which means you’ll often be owning systems that haven’t been fully documented yet. You’ll have a ton of autonomy to set engineering standards, but that comes with the responsibility of being the "person who knows" when things get complex. If you need a rigid, pre-defined roadmap every Monday morning, the pace here might feel overwhelming. The Perks Core Hours Flexibility: We prioritize results over "desk time." Be available for the team between 9 AM and 2 PM EST, and manage the rest of your day however you work best.Modern Tech Stack: Work deeply with AWS (RDS, Lambda, ECS), Python/Django, and PostgreSQL.No Red Tape: You are the technical owner. If you see a better way to build a pipeline or secure our data, you have the green light to make it happen.Impact: Your work directly reduces manual toil for every other division in the company. When you succeed, the whole business moves faster. How to Apply Send your application to: adryfhout@primarypeoplegroup.com We are an equal opportunity employer.
