Job Title: Integration Engineer Location: Remote, UK Reports to: Head of Integration (UK) Work schedule: Mon – Fri, 37.5 hours per week The Opportunity: Working across assigned products and customer projects, the role delivers technical integration activities throughout the project lifecycle. This includes technical discovery, interface configuration and development, testing, deployment, go-live, documentation, and transition into business-as-usual support. The role combines professional services delivery with core integration engineering, including contributing to the development of new host-system interfaces, reusable integration patterns, and code-first development and deployment practices. The role also contributes to the investigation and resolution of support issues affecting deployed integrations. Working with an appropriate level of autonomy based on experience and the complexity of the work, the Integration Engineer collaborates with Senior Integration Engineers, project teams, customers, and internal stakeholders to ensure that integration solutions are reliable, maintainable, secure, and supportable. Your Responsibilities: Develop and maintain a good understanding of the integration capabilities, supported workflows, technical dependencies, and deployment patterns associated with assigned products.Deliver assigned integration activities and manage defined technical work packages across customer projects, coordinating priorities, dependencies, risks, and delivery milestones with Senior Integration Engineers and the relevant project teams.Work with Sales and Customer Success teams to understand customer requirements and provide technical input to the definition of integration deliverables associated with the sale and implementation of the company’s products.Contribute to technical estimates, implementation approaches, assumptions, dependencies, risks, and delivery plans for proposed integration work.Provide technical input to Statements of Work, helping to ensure that relevant scope, deliverables, responsibilities, dependencies, acceptance criteria, and exclusions are understood and documented.Identify potential changes to agreed scope and communicate these to Senior Integration Engineers, Project Managers, and other relevant stakeholders for assessment.Collaborate with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Product teams, customer technical teams, and third-party suppliers to define, plan, and deliver integration requirements.Deliver assigned technical integration work throughout the project lifecycle, from discovery and design through to development, testing, deployment, cutover, go-live, and operational handover.Design, configure, develop, test, and deploy healthcare interfaces using Mirth Connect, BridgeLink, or other Mirth Connect-based integration engines and associated technologies.Configure and extend established integration patterns connecting the company’s products with Patient Administration Systems, Electronic Patient Records, Electronic Medical Records, Radiology Information Systems, and other clinical or administrative systems.Contribute to the development of new integration solutions for previously unsupported host systems, message types, workflows, or technical requirements, translating business and clinical needs into reliable, secure, maintainable, and supportable solutions.Develop and maintain integrations using healthcare interoperability standards and technologies, particularly HL7 v2, REST APIs, JSON, XML, and related data exchange patterns.Plan and support interface testing with internal teams, customers, and third-party suppliers, including connectivity, message validation, system integration, user acceptance, regression, and production verification activities.Undertake and support deployment, cutover, go-live, and post-go-live assurance activities in accordance with agreed plans, ensuring that dependencies, risks, verification steps, and rollback arrangements are understood and appropriately escalated.Participate in planned out-of-hours deployments, cutovers, go-live activities, and other time-critical implementation work where required, working with project teams to plan these activities and minimise their frequency and impact.Investigate and resolve issues affecting deployed integrations, using messages, logs, code, configuration, databases, APIs, and other technical evidence to identify root causes and implement appropriate resolutions, escalating complex, high-risk, or unfamiliar issues where required.Produce and maintain appropriate technical documentation throughout the project and development lifecycle, including solution designs, interface specifications, data mappings, test evidence, deployment and rollback plans, and operational handover materials.Contribute to the development and documentation of reusable integration patterns, shared components, host-system capabilities, deployment requirements, known constraints, and support considerations for use across future customer implementations.Contribute to the organisation’s adoption of code-first integration development, including externally managed JavaScript, reusable modules, source control, peer review, command-line tooling, automated testing, and repeatable deployment processes.Participate in peer reviews of integration designs, configurations, and code, acting on constructive feedback and contributing to the maintenance of appropriate technical and quality standards.Share technical knowledge and experience with colleagues, contributing to the development of capability across the wider team.Participate confidently in customer meetings, technical workshops, delivery planning sessions, project discussions, and incident investigations, communicating technical information clearly to relevant stakeholders.Plan and manage assigned work across customer delivery, core engineering, documentation, and support priorities, communicating progress, risks, dependencies, and required decisions to Senior Integration Engineers and other relevant stakeholders. Essential Experience: Demonstrable professional experience developing, configuring, testing, deploying, or supporting system interfaces using an integration platform, middleware technology, or custom integration solution.Good practical understanding of systems integration concepts and common integration patterns, including message-based, API-based, or event-driven integration.Experience working with structured data formats and system-to-system data exchange, such as JSON, XML, delimited data, or comparable formats.Practical understanding of interface processing concepts, including data transformation, validation, routing, acknowledgements, error handling, retries, logging, and monitoring.Experience developing or supporting API-based integrations using technologies and formats such as REST, JSON, HTTP, and associated authentication and error-handling patterns.Experience delivering assigned technical integration activities or defined work packages through relevant stages of the project or development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, documentation, and operational handover.Practical experience using a programming or scripting language to transform data, implement processing logic, automate technical activities, or support system integration.Ability and willingness to apply existing development skills to JavaScript-based interface development within Mirth Connect-based technologies.Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL, including the ability to query data and investigate database-related integration issues.Strong diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with experience investigating technical issues using logs, data, configuration, code, database queries, API responses, or other diagnostic evidence.Ability to manage assigned technical activities and defined work packages, organising priorities and communicating progress, risks, dependencies, and required decisions to relevant colleagues and stakeholders.Ability to identify potential technical risks, dependencies, constraints, and scope changes and escalate them appropriately.Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements, resolve issues, and coordinate delivery activities.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical matters clearly and professionally and produce accurate, structured, and maintainable documentation.Ability and willingness to learn healthcare integration standards, workflows, systems, and terminology, including HL7 v2 and the company’s Mirth Connect-based integration technologies.Willingness and ability to adopt source-controlled, code-first development and deployment practices.Willingness to participate in occasional planned out-of-hours implementation activities, with appropriate flexibility and time off in lieu in accordance with company arrangements.Willingness to undertake occasional UK travel where a specific customer or business requirement cannot reasonably be met remotely.
